Capturing hostiles as POWs and other advanced rules ideas..

Capturing enemies as prisoners rather than just killing them is something I've never seen simulated in Tabletop warfare. In modern warfare I bellieve capturing prisoners is important for gaining intelligence. Think it could ever happen in BFE?

Some other advanced rules which I hope to be in the main rulebook-

Moving undected by use of camoflage or lying in a prone position.

Air to Air combat maybe? Or will jets only be used to support ground forces?

how would capturing a pow be any different mechanic wise to killing him,

for each casuality roll a d6 on a 5 or 6 he's alive and captured, and gain 10 - 50 vp's?

Very true. Just because something is removed from the game does not mean that it is dead, it could simply be too badly injured to have an effect on the battle.

could use special rules for it in campaigns. Have to have different rules for each faction, though. For example, you would get less intelligence benefits from US and EU forces due to their training (at least, assuming the proposed NATO training actually gets full speed), but more propaganda benefits, etc. Would have to tie in with media rules and the like for that. Still, I could see an S&P series in the works...

there are some abstract rules for prisoners in SST - If a brain bug is in the Bug army, you roll for every enemy killed in melee. On a certian roll, they're actually taken prisoner so the bug can suck their brains out.

I'm sure they cna modify that.

Battleground WW2 has rules for capturing prisoners.

Without having them in front of me, I believe that a model surrendered if it was out of command, surrounded by enemies, and failed a morale check.
The capturing player had the option to:
1- Refuse surrender.
Strip them of their weapons and ammo, and send them on their way with their hands held high. No extra VPs awarded because they arent in the custody of any player.

2- Capture.
Conduct the search of the captured model, and take it into custody. Prisoner model had to be escorted off the board (via deployment zone was our requirement) by the capturing model.

3- No quarter.
Surrendering model is executed.....
However all of the surrendering players forces would go fanatic when surrendering, and become a real hassle.

Dogs of War also had rules for physically subduing other models while in melee combat. The assaulting player had to declare that he was going for sumission as opposed to lethal blows.
The opponent could counterattack with bonuses if the submission failed.

IIRC someone had mentioned that the advanced rules for BF:E included mob's and such... for Somali type engagements or civil disturbance.
That would be a great way to showcase 'less lethal' equipment like beanbag shotguns, OC,CS, Taser, etc... love to work those into the game somehow.
