Campaign End: Assistance Requested

Warjammy

Mongoose
Hey kids, as you may have seen on some other posts, I've been running a campaign at our gaming club for about 9 weeks now. I've a big starmap, and almost all my players are really into it, no matter how much they whine. Problem is (ALL SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND GAMING B5 PLAYERS STOP HERE) all of them suck... see I told you to stop up there. Seriously though, I had a plan, because the EA player was leaping away with the campaign, when he hit a certain threshold of occupied planets, I was going to end the campaign with a mega battle, a chunk of each enemy fleet hitting his most well defended world (which would be his whole fleet, B5 probably, and orbital defenses) to try and assault the planet. Then somebody suggested solidarity, and all the players jumped his holdings and brought him down to the level of the rest. Being number 2, I got jumped this week (2 games left this week, we'll see how that goes). I'm sticking to the 'first player to threshold wins' but I want to do something interesting to end it. Well? Fire away.

sounds great fun to be sure :-)
I dunno, we always thought of the threshold, X planets, or X % bigger fleet than your nearest rival kinda thing, you could try for some ubermega battle, all in, ubt would probably take you weeks to play it :-)
in one of our campaigns, we finished with a stand up fight between EA and Narn versus Vorlons and Minbari. the older races won, although the Narn did damned well against the Vorlons, was agreat fun battle.
you could have a star go nova and reduce the number of systems randomly, so people are fighting over much fewer targets, and it becomes a knockout, people who have no system after 2 turns of the nova go out, then another 2 planets go, and so on, till you have on survivor? very false, but promotes lots of selfich fighting!

I think the concensus is: play till someone reaches threshold or we reach an obvious end point (game slows to crawl). Break up into 4 teams, with so many points each, so there are two big brawls, then the victors of those go on to face each other for hold of the system. Since there are 8 players, teams will be hilarious.
