break out the mead slaine RQ is a coming

toothill man

Mongoose
matt in the thread rpgs on the main thread matt says there is a slaine RQ coming(sometime next year) which is brilliant so slap your dwarf in joy the boy is coming back 8)

I read it but it is only interesting if other books are scheduled. I fear this one will be another rule book with Runequest book and a Slaine setting.

But if books are further published on Slaine, then yes, it is very enjoyable.

Does that mean that there will be no more d20 Slaine material? :?

On another note, I just bought Slaine: The Exile by Steven Savile. I'm 1/4 through it. May get done by end of week. Thus far it's mildly enjoyable. Sadly, Savile's not exactly a master wordsmith--he makes REH look like Chandler. Thus far the druid Cathbad is painted like a grumpy, old villain. I wonder how it follows the comics, if at all. Has anyone else read it yet?

SLaine RQ. I'm glad it appears to be comming together now.

Faired Spot Check.

I should be recieving that book early next year all going well. I have been looking forawrd to it. Perhaps hoping that it ties up alot of the loose ends I have found with the comic. Making Slaine full circle.

As much as I would like to know right now. Don't spoil anything four me yet . FSC.

About Cathbad being grumpy and seeming to be evil. Well he is a Druid. According to the old D&D rules they were all neutral. Niether one alignment or the other. Hence the reason for his character.

Of course I'm not sure if that accordong to Mongoose's rule of Druids in the d20 Slain rulebook. I'll have to check that one for myself.

Even under the D20 rules, druids can make human sacrifice to boost their EP.
Generally however, many druids did make human sacrifice to propritiate the gods, the most common being the human sacrifice to nurture the earth (?) and ensure an excellent harvest.
Thus druids do not kill for pleasure but because they deem it necessary.

their is a slaine head at the helm of the new slaine project gagging to add new material so its not a resale but something to supersize on the mead for :D

Haven't been about, since I have been super busy! But HEY THERE MY SLAINE' LADS!!!!

I may just have to pick this up! Hoping to get some Slaine' going over the holidays. And hope to visit here more often, been waaay too long! Hope all are doing fine?

Failed Spot Check.

Somebody said on another forum that that Slaine's mother was murdereded by Skullswords in this novelisation. Something that didn't quite exactly haapen the same way in the comics.

I just hope the one and only Slaine novel isn't going to be trash.

I think I didn't understand until now that the talk was about a slaine novel (I didn't know one was published). I am surprised though that Games Workshop and not Mongoose have the publishing right.

Welcome back Daithi O'an tSionnaigh!

I am surprised that 2000AD/Rebellion didn't have it. Perhaps they wanted to distance themselves from it in case it bombed.

Mind you, the D20 Slaine rules were given a mention in this review at Amazon.com as a better alternative to the novel in terms of the way alot of it was written.

I wrote the review. I bought the book, hoping it might give me insight into the original comic, since it isn't available in the US. However, to my horror, the book was dreadful. I couldn't get more than 1/2 way through it before feeling physically ill. I'm trying to heal the damage by rereading the Tain by Kinsella, Book of Invasions, "Second Battle of Magh Tuiredh", and other old pieces of Irish lit. in order to rinse the bad taste from my poor brain. Oh well, live and learn.

so it is that bad  was hoping for a good novel but if they cannot even get mums death right what hope has the book  as a slight pop quiz can anyone tell me the first issue we learn of her death and how did it happen 8)

I might have made mistake there about 2000AD/Rebellion. On a closer examination of the cover of another Black Flame Book featuring Johnny Alpha. It still gives credit to 2000AD/Rebellion.

About the novel it-self. Is the writing really bad, or are you just saying that it's bad adaption from comic to real writing?

I know by experience that pastiche books are usually bad if they aren't written by a great author. This is especially the case for Conan. Thus i am not surprised.

it is a real shame as the fans have waited some time might get this in the end but will concentrate more on getting the progs I am missing and the more obsure slaine comic stories(got secreat commonwealth which was alot better than was lead to belive)

I was hoping thet 2000AD would reprint atleast all of the Slaine stories that occurrred between Horned God and The Book of Invasions.

Though it would now appear that the there isn't going to a complete set of Slaine, just like the Judge Dredd, Strontiem Dog and Nemesis Cases Files that are in production now. Mind you they said they were never going to do all colour stories in that format. It would need to be in greyscale and that would never work.

Though I think it's strange that the 'Time Killer ' stories seem be reprinted more often than not. YThere is anotyher that is to be published very soon.

I don't care if the post-Horned God Stories were weren't good. I shall still like to read them, as well as this 'Slaine: The Exile'.

I have bought some of the slaine D20 stuff and really like it, but its to strange for my group of players.

I won't be buying any slaine RQ as i have the D20 stuff, why change? :(

If i had my choice i'd update it with the Conan OGL rule set, my 2 coppers

So does this mean they are switching Slaine permanently to RQ? Might not be a bad idea ecept for the conversion work that will be required for the old supps...

Steve
