Book 4

Mongoose
So is there going to be an updated book 4(the last word was that it was being looked at by Joe Dever, but it hadn't been decided yet whether any changes were to be made, I think)?

If so, when will it be available to buy(Since I have one with both typesetting & script problems, I wish to buy another)?

Finally, and I don't know if this is even known yet, will the mongoose version of 28 have 300, or 350 entries(The original only had 300)? If 350, do the extra 50 entries lead into book 29? I was just wondering since, as we are getting 29-32 as they are ready, there is a possibilty they may reference things that are not in the old 28 that some people have, if you know what I mean.

Wow, that was pretty confusing even to me... ^_^;

Book 28 will surely have it's 350 sections, but I doubt that book 29 will make references to something that wasn't previously published in the original version of book 28 (with the 50 missing sections). Honestly, with 50 sections, I think that all that can be added are an alternate route to miss the (SPOILER) magical arrow that kills Sejanoz and a sword fight with the Autarch if you don't have that magical arrow. The only thing that book 29 can reference to from book 28 is the death of Sejanoz and his invasion of Chai.

Did Joe write this book with the knowledge that it would be the last published? With the name of the new book, one of things I was thinking was that Sejanoz may have been intended to last longer, but was killed off to give things a nice ending.

From what I know, the remaining 4 books were already outlined before the ending of book 28, so I really think that Sejanoz was supposed to die in that book. About the main bad guy of book 29, I think that there is enough of other evil characters that we have already met (Ulonga, Sesketera, Vadyan) for the last 4 books of the series. There's no need to create a new one.

Like I already said, with only 50 more sections to the new version of 28, I think that we can only expect a bigger, longer fight with Sejanoz but with the same result than in the old version.

Heh, I'm hoping for some hint about the final enemy. My guesses would be perhaps Vashna, Agarash, or Vonotar(Magnakai spoilers whited outIt was said in the legends books that killing him was a very bad idea, and right now, he's dead).

Heh, I see our discussion about sejanoz was played out a few years ago. ^_^

Really, I'd be happy with any of the three, they all have their good points.

*Spoilers abound below for those who haven't played through the series*

Agarash
-Naar's greatest champion, referenced a lot throughout the series, whose kingdom was in southern magnamund(where the N.O. kai lord is at the end of 28, and apparently in 29).

Vashna
-Strongest of the darklords, twice has almost been summoned, an event that everyone in sommerlund believe would be cataclysmic. Him finally being summoned succesfully(third time lucky, right?), and he and his undead army facing off against the kai lords would be great.

Vonotar
-Responsible for the near total destruction of the Kai, and the most powerful wizard in magnamunds history. The legends book strongly suggest he would be far more of a threat dead then alive, it would be nice to see how. Perhaps he could take over someones body?

Okay, I've had an interesting discussion with Blackcat regarding 29-32, but I've still yet to get a mongoose-flavoured reply to my questions about Book 4 in my original post. Any idea yet?

As for yet another plug for my own fan books, I used Vonotar for them as he was a seriously underplayed character. However, he is more of a LW character than a NO character, and the same is true of Vashna.

Personally I would like the final book to be against either Vashna or Vonotar and you play as LW. THe ifnal 3 NO books will probably be against Agarash, but it may lead up to him.

It's interesting that in every single NO book there is some reference to Agaraash

Umm, spoilers below if you haven't read them yet:

21 - The Chasm of Ghorgoran (sorry about the spelling) and the Doom-stalker

22 - Pretty much all of Southern Magnamund

23 - Bhanar and the sacrfice hut next to Naaros

24 - The Runes of Agarash

25 - Zorkaan

26 - The Shom-zaa

27 - The Claw of Naar

28 - Sejanoz

So to continue the trend, all that is left is Agarash himself, or some Doomstones - and the Doomstones were more of a LW thing again.

And to go back on-topic, I've just read through Mongoose's news about the books being redone.

My Book 1, 2 and 3 are fine - Book 4 does have the errors and for a tenner, I am considering getting a replacement, but only if those errors have been fixed!

Does anyone have a new Book 4 they can comment on?

IS the equipment options section from the beginning still missing, does the side quest character sheet still have the wrong things on it. There's a few awkward links in the text too but I can't remember them offhand.

The equipment section seems to be of virtually identical in length to the one in book 1 EDIT: there doesn't seem to be a 'choose some equipment' bit like in books 2 and 3 if that's what you mean. The action chart for the mini-adventure looks horrible, it's pixellated and looks like it's been edited in MSPaint. The boxes seem to have the correct things on them though.

That's exactly the error that Balgin means - there should be an equipment system like any other book. That should have been corrected :(

EvilRedEye, do you have the new version of the new book 4 (so, printed in the US) or just the new book 4 (printed in the UK) ?

I only ordered my book 4 about a fortnight ago and received it last week but it says that it's printed in the UK. Have I been sold the old print and been bumped out of the new one? It does have the pixelated Action Chart for themini adventure...?

New US printed one.

Does yours actually say printed in the US inside? The ones I received did not (shipped from Ohio), still says printed and bound in the UK.

Same here even though I was told these were the new prints...

My book 4 doesn't have a pixellated action chart for the mini adventure. It does, unfortunately, have the book 3 mini adventure's action chart instead by mistake (but I can live with that).

I'm waiting to find out if the "new" book 4's have the equipment section sorted out before asking for a replacement.
