Book 4 - problems with both editions?

Hi people.

As with most here, I'm getting rather disgruntled after buying the megadeal over a year ago.

I received books 1 and 2 (not chekced my book #1 for the possible error for the text being cut off).

Then I received book #3 and discovered the missing section and whilst I reported this a long while ago, I am still patiently awaiting my replacement. -Update: Within minutes of e-mailing them, Mongoose have shipped out a replacement. Thanks

Now I have two different book 4s. One has a flat edge with the incorrect 129 section and NO inventory and an incorrect version of the character sheet for the bonus adventure.
The one without the flat edge which was a replacement now has the correct passage, a pixelated action chart for the bonus adventure and STILL NO INVENTORY! So neither copy has the Equipment section

And on 315 in the first book, the skill TRACKING is listed whilst my replacement has had the skill removed so you have no idea what the book is talking about.

So in effect, both books that I have are still faulty.

Not trying to be arsey or anything, but I'm a mature student studying for a degree in Publishing and the first thing we were all told was that publishing is about Quality Control otherwise it costs the publishers so much money to get things fixed. Seems that you could perhaps get a better copy editor! I'm available and part-qualified! Seriously.

I used to own the original manuscript for book #9 and know how much work you all have to go through to get a final binding but we don't want Mongoose to lose so much money on each print!

All have a good day,

Stu

I paid for the mega deal too all I can say is fingers crossed for book 6 then.

Wasn't there supposed to be Dragons of Lencia novel or something coming out with book 5? (And another one about Telchos). I can't find anything about it now but I thought it came free with the mega deal, or is there news I missed or have I been at the Calacena again?

If so that was one of the reasons I signed up for the deal - that and finally finding out what happens books 29-32.

Hang on, I must have missed something... what is wrong with section 129?

Ah, I thought it was the part with the wrong re-directions. Can't remember off the top of my head.

Generally the part of the book which assumes you have the party with you or doesn't, I'm not too sure. But they're both different.

And why does the revised section have the skill removed with the older version being correct? As far as I see it I need both books to play the game AND the download from the website as NEITHER copies have the equipment section.

So my replacement was still a dud.

The download from the website?
That'll be the one with the equipment for Book 6 (Bow, Quiver, Padded Leather Waistcoat) it says take 3 but book 6 is take 5 rather than the Book 4 Equipment:

Take six of the following -
Warhammer
Dagger
2 Potions of Laumspur (Backpack)
Sword
Spear
5 Special Rations (Meals)
Mace
Chainmail Waiscoat (Special Items) +4EP
Shield (Special Items) +2CS

The last two are very useful for some of the battles in later books.

So that's two incorrect books and an incorrect downloadable errata, more teething troubles than a Zavaghar but I still love Lone Wolf

Yeah that Silver Helmet is pretty much essential.
Do you wear Padded Leather as well as Chainmail then?

You should always wear apropaite padding under mail unless you want to develope really nasty bruises. There's never been anything in any of the Lone Wolf books I've seen to date that emphaticaly states they cannot be worn together and from real life experiences I'd say you wouldn't want mail without padding because having a flexible mesh of metal between you and whatever's striking the blow means you're getting bashed with a metal shirt as well as whatever's hitting you :p.

This is true I know from RPG's such as Warhammer FRP if you have a Breastplate you MUST wear leather or mail underneath. Still it's academic as the equipment section for bk 4 is missing so I can't pick up the chainmail anyway and the only other chainmail you lose when being shipwrecked from the Green Sceptre. After that it's a long wait to the Bronin Vest and Kagonite chainmail of book 12.
So, in theory if you can start Chasm of Doom with Chainmail, can you eventually wear all 4 - padded leather (+2 EP), Chainmail (+ 4EP), Bronin Vest (+3CS +1EP) and Kagonite Chainmail (+ 3CS +1EP)? When you include Silver Bracers (+2CS +1EP), Silver Helm (+2CS) and Shield (+2CS) that's quite an advantage even before you draw a weapon. :D
I'm not a big fan of armour increasng ENDURANCE. Say you have Chainmail +4 EP and you get in a fight down to 1 EP does that mean the mail is damaged or can you use Healing to heal ALL the damage. What about what happens if you have 1 EP and take the armour off - should you be down to -3 EP and dead! How about a hero in Chainmail with 5 EP taking 2 EP mindforce damage: the Chainmail keeps him alive. At least if the armour affects CS it literally gives you an advantage in physical combat meaning you are more likely to take less damage and able to do more damage as you can take more risk without worrying about getting hurt. 8)

Rules aside, you couldn't really wear two layers of mail effectively. It's strength lies in it's flexibility - the way the mesh folds around a weapon to trap it, slow it's inward movement and halt it's slashing advance. Having two layers would reduce this flexibility and the protection you'd gain wouldn't be worth the sheer loss of mobility you'd suffer (and the increase in percussive you'd suffer).

The problem with wearing both Padded Waistocat and Chainmail Waistoat are as follows:

1. The chainmail waistocat aleady came with padding, or it would be more or less unwearable. So does the Padded Wastcoat add to the protection value for the "padding" part of the Waistcoat?

2. Lone Wolf relies on speed and dexterity for some of his skills. Wearing too much armour will hinder him when using his skills and in combat more than the added protectiobn helps. I'm inclined to give Lone Wolf penalties when using Camouflage and Hunting, and he should not always succeed when using these skills if he wears to much armour. If a Random Number is picked he should deduct from his score (whether or not he has the skill) because the armour detracts from his performance.

I feel that part of the reason that most armour were removed in the GM books were that they were too heavy and the real Lone Wolf would not even consider using them because of their hindrance. To some extent the same consideration would apply to earlier books as well.
