I purchased the pdf last night and it's pretty interesting. It reminds me very much of Call of Cthulhu, of course, but a bit edgier. Some highlights:
*Magic Points are renamed to Power Points and function the same. No spells are given but RQ spells, especially sorcery, could easily be used, as could CoC spells.
*There are Mind Points that function much like Sanity Points in CoC, though it is derived by adding INT to POW.
*Fatigue points are used and remind me very much of RQ3 rules. I like this a bit better actually than the fatigue level mechanic in MRQ.
*Courage is a cool skill that is used to resist going bonkers. It acts much like Persistance but is actually eroded by failure. Makes sense, the more fearful you become the less courageous you are.
*Basic Skills are modernized as are Advanced Skills of which they're are several dozen to choose from.
*Cultural Backgrounds are based on Poor, Middle, and Rich classes. There are a plethora of Proffessions available, again very CoC in nature.
*There is an interesting mechanic that addresses the problem of skills being greater than 100%, admitting that typically only otherworldly entities will have such an ability 'beyond mortal ken'.
*Detailed are modern weapons and armors as well as vehicle combat rules.
Overall I think this is a rather nice rules supplement and I hope to see more come of this. I was thinking of running a horror scenario using RQ and this should work perfectly. It grafts the good mechanics of RQ onto CoC giving us the best of both worlds. BloodQuest is definitely worth $2.50, even if you just want to steal some of the interesting Attributes and rules tweaks.
