Blood of Orlanth chronology error? [spoilers]

If you're playing Blood of Orlanth, look away now...

At the end of Blood of Orlanth, it says that Maralis is found to be pregnant, that she goes off to Ralios, and that "from her lineage Alakoring Dragonbreaker will be born in the years to come." This seemed like a good excuse to continue my campaign with the PCs having to protect this child, since there's a prophecy that he's destined for greatness.

But then I looked in Greg Stafford's "History of the Heortling Peoples" and discovered that "Alakoring gains fame" in c.880, which is quite a while before the Blood of Orlanth campaign, which I'm assuming takes place in 908, since the siege of Zistorwal is already in progress.

I could of course ignore the dates in History of the Heortling Peoples, but then Alakoring might turn up in some future Mongoose publication alive and well and grown up, which would be rather embarassing for all concerned! :)

Anyone got any ideas?

Which indeed he does. Alakoring plays a part in Dara Happa Stirs... so you may need to ignore the Blood of Orlanth dates if you ever run Dara Happa...

FWIW, as far as Greg Stafford and I are concerned, the dates given in History of the Heortling People is "canon".

Just what we need...another composite hero...I believe that the Alakoring referred to in History of the Heortling Peoples was Alakoring Welliethrower, slightly less reknowned than his Dragonbreaking namesake, but who achieved a degree of notoriety at the time referred to...

I suppose Loz didn't had access to this recent source of information.

Yes, Loz did, but Gar, who wrote Blood of Orlanth, probably missed it. Its an easy enough oversight: there's lots of detail in History of the Heortling People, and, really, its no big deal (or shouldn't be).

Or just ignore the Marsalis plotline. Or just say Gar got the details wrong - she probably gave birth to another bloodline of heroes. There are a lot of them in the 10th and 11th century. :)

May be there were as many Orlanthi named Alakoring in the imperial age as there were Orlanthi named Argrath in the 3rd age.

BTW sorry for the confusion.

I think you'll find there is also Yelmalakoringo and Alak- two cults that split accrimoniously...no one doesn't really exist...no it really exists but is a recent import with no connection to other Orlanthi cults...no it is but it isn't if you know what I mean...no that's right, Alokoring heroquests to discover this new foreignish cult but is so into it and he is so Orlanthi it's ok but they have to have their own "county" away from everyone else but connected as well, in a way. Clear?

Alakoring is also mentioned in Glorantha: the Second Age as being a boy in 908.

Just sayin.

Which was an error that Greg didn't catch when he took a look throw Robin's Second Age draft. The dates for Alakoring in History of the Heortling People and Dara Happa Stirs are Greg's.

And NO, there is NO Alakoring Yelmalio cult. Fwiw, Alakoring (and his companions) will be sacking a lot of Yelmalio sun dome temples.

Alakoring ends-up being pretty pissed-off with all things Solar. And all things draconic. And most likely all things God Learner too.

He's not a happy yoghurt...
