Hi Folks

Just though I would get your opnions on the outcome of my forthcoming battle on 8th Jan with Wulf and it has turened into a real decider for these two fleets as it is a 5pt Annihilation War(rolled randomly).

I will post my fleet up and Wulf should post his once he comes on. I am Earth Alliance and Wulf is Drazi+Brakiri.

My fleet is as follows.

My flagship with EAS Trident - a Poseidon Super Carrier
EAS Avenger - Avenger Class
EAS Watson - Orestes Class
EAS Rutherford, Eas Cromwell, EAS Heisenberg - 3 Nova Gunships
EAS Achilles, EAS Hammer - 2 Omega Class
EAS Zeus - Olympus Class
EAS Virgil, EAS Taurus, EAS Gemini - Saggitarius Class
plus a whole loadout of fighters counted to be over 40 flights of Starfuries.

Also wanted to ask if anyone has else has played like this before.

Once Wulf puts his fleet up you should be able to see what you think the outcome will be.

One of the deciding factors that another player in our campaign has said is what missile I choose as we are using the variant missile but have outlawed the ingore interceptor missiles.

Comments are Welcome

I seem to have lost the sheet I calculated my force on, however as I know the couple of ships that are NOT taking part, it's easy to recalculate..

EDIT: changed fleet to allow playtesting of a couple of Drazi designs from the new list/

2x Brakiri Tashkat Advanced Cruiser (including the Flag)
2x Brakiri Brokados Battle Carrier
2x Brakiri Avioki Heavy Cruiser
3x Falkosi Fighter Wing (1x full-strength, 1x 4 Flights, 1x 3 Flights)
2x Drazi Warbird Cruiser
3x Drazi Sunhawk Battlecruiser (1x carrying Star Snake Flight)

2x Darkhawk Missile Cruiser
1x Solarhawk Cruiser

That's 14 ships and 17 Flights of fighters. The Sunhawk has been upgraded after an earlier battle.

My big problem will undoubtedly be Earthforce Fighters, so my important decisions will be Squadron makeup and what do do with my Fighters. I have a whole load of Beam weapons to beat his Interceptors, and loads of AP & SAP to beat his higher Hull score ships, and loads of Anti-Figter weaponry, but a lot of my ships have no rear-facing or even side-facing weapons.

With both sides locked in a close, swirling battle, with massive ammounts of damage flying every way, and ships exploding left and right, the Brakiri forces made a cowardly surrender to the Earth Alliance, and the few remaining Drazi ships, forced to admit their fleet could only survive if they did, fled the battlefield in good order.

In other words, Earth won... but not by a huge margin! Virtually every ship on the field was badly damaged, but Earth retained far more dice to throw around than the League, primarily in the shape of (if I remember correctly) 3 Novas and two Omegas still battle-worthy, although not immaculate. Not a single League ship remained undamaged, and the majority were mauled.

OK, it was meant to be an Annihilation scenario, but after 5.5 hours we ran out of time, energy and brain cells...

Still, though, it was close for a time. Every single Starfury Flight was eliminated, due mainly to the dilligent work by the Brakiri A-F weapons, and some inspired Dogfighting by the Falkosi pilots. Not one League ship was killed or even crippled by Fighter action, and no fewer than 5 Falkosi Flights survived, although with only one Brocados carrier to house them!

Most susprising was the survival of two Drazi Warbirds, in pretty good order. A Brocados and a Tashkat, badly mauled, and two Avioki (more later) were the other survivors.

EDIT: there seems to be some confusion here, as I have both Brokados surviving according to their damage taken, but I was sure they hadn't. Hopefully someone else will have taken notes.

Ah, those Avioki... One of them took crits on turn one, rendering it immobile and weaponless, a state it found irreperable until the closing turn... the other was likewise rendered weaponless just as the two battlelines started to break up and intermingle! It was the loss of this immense firepower, more than any other single event, that lost the battle for the League.

As for the Drazi playtest ships, the Darkhawks performed as expected, thwarted somewhat by the Earthforce Interceptors, but still well enough. The Solarhawk was effective, but unspectacular, underperforming, as virtually every Drazi ship so often does, because of the disappointing results of Beam weapons in this game. Not anywhere as bad as the 1-AD AP Sunhawk Beams, of course, which were almost a complete waste of time.

The League will be staying well away from conflicts above Skirmish level for some time, but were not humiliated.

Well that was one doozie of a battle and have learned much tactical space combat. After the last round of firing I don't know what would have started happening cause even though I had masses of guns to use I wasn't doing that mcuh damage but Wulf was worried about steady break down before he could bring his beams to bear.

But I echo his sentiment about not doing much for a which as I will need some serious R&R but I believe the Centauri are going to attack next turn so I will have to try my best to use the shipyards to good effect and might even have to field it to even the playing field

Cheers

I got the full rundown from Baz earlier... wow! (soz I had to bail half way through the game).

Steve: What makes you think that the Centauri are going to attack there dear close friends in the Earth Alliance?

Wulf: The sunhawk was spectacular, both for the 12/12 damage it produced with a single round from a single weapons system, and for the pretty explosion which happened during the return fire. That managed to knock out all the interceptors on 3 EA ships, and gave you clean shooting at them for the rest of the turn.

All in all I was majorly impressed with how both sides went, and I feel that while the game went to the EA, overall the League survival (esp in the face of that fighter block off the right flank), was spectacular.

Catchas larter peeps,
Keef.

On reflection (you always get good reflections on a sunny day), I agree, it did perform remarkably well on the one occasion it was really brought to bear.

I don't know I have received some anonymous intel from what I believe to be from the Minbari Fleet which indicated this.

So from what you said last Sat there you won't be in for the next 2 weeks so what will we do about Bab5 will we postpone it or can you give us any ideas about your fleet movements. :D
