No one plays ACTA out here. I found it by chance and played it with other B5 fans with the chits. I just released my savings and bought a bunch of models. These are the first ones I've ever seen close up. I got them last night.

Wow, these models are big! The G'Quan is enormous! We were having problems with space issues with chits, how am I supposed to maneuver around with these bricks?

You ain't seen nothing yet 8)

Now you know why I use Fleet Action scale...

.... ah.... yes.

My plan is to get a couple of fleets painted up and then play at a first rate local hobby store ( yes a demo ). When I get closer, I'll contact Mongoose for some support and advice. I'm already pencilled in for a demo at the big gaming Con next summer so I better have my stuff together.

Actually most ships are quite ok.

If youre used to shifting around 40k Land raiders and drednoughts ^^.

My problem are the overblown armageddon ships.

The thing about 40K is it's all scale. I don't mind the bulk of a Raider because it's supposed to be bulky. ACTA, however, scale would be microscopic. How we went from infinitesimal to freakin' huge is a bit beyond my limited understanding of this game's history. I wish the ships were more relative.

Fleet action scale are on Ebay regularly, mostly based in US.

Yes they are OOP, but still around.

You can even get them via a link from the original AoG site. Selection has gone down as stock has sold out, but I picked up several fleets a while ago. Painting them, now, that's another story...

Actually 40k vehicles are too small. quite a bit too small actually.

So the little problems ACTA has arent that bad ^^.

Most of the ATCA miniatures were originally designed for the previous B5wars game which was completely different in its system, so blame AoG for the miniture sizes, Mongoose just purchased their moulds...

Though the Fleet Action ones are of a more consistent relative scale but Mongoose wanted to use the bigger figures as they were more "gamey" so they could have had the "better" scaled ones...

If the moulds didn't fit the game, Mongoose could certainly be blamed for buying them. They could have comissioned new sculpts. It's not like they haven't done a few since the game came out, after all. And that ignores the Fleet Action scaled miniatures, since they have already been mentioned on this thread.

I've only played the game with counters, but I can't imagine what size table you need to do fleet actions with some of these miniatures. Actually, I can, having seen them at conventions. I don't have that much room, and even my FLGS would be pressed for space on most days.

Ork Trukks are maybe the worst for that. 10 Orks are supposed to fit in that little thing? Oh be serious.

On the other hand if they were big enough they would probably cost $50 each...

Granted, many of the miniatures are not in scale with one another, but I don't think it ruins the game. We're lucky that Mongoose came along and picked up the license. After all, this is a game based on a show that has been off the air for several years.

JMS should be happy that people are still talking about B5 and keeping it alive. My group plays because of the fond memories of the show and the miniatures are a big part of that.

I have the distinct feeling that, if there was not already a near-complete range of minis available, the game might never have been made. Without the ability to start off running with a good selection of minis, the investment of time & money may have been too much of a risk.

The choice of B5W scale over FA scale I'm less happy with, but the larger minis are more collectable, so I guess Mongoose figure they'll sell better.

Yep, why buy a pack of 3 Tinashis in FA scale for $10 when you can have 1 for $10?
Size matters when it comes to selling minis. Most FA minis are so small they do lack detail, and many virtually disappear on a 6' x 4' table. Look at RPG figures sales. They started at 25mm, then grew to 28mm, now many of them are 30mm or taller!
