Mongoose
Decided to post the first of hopefully many translated rulesets in here as well.

This is the same set of rules that will come with each box of Battlefield Evolution miniatures sold in Finland, in conjunction to the original english rules.

Each boxset will also come with a finnish translation of each unitcard included in the box, once again not as a replacement to the original but as an addition.

Oh darn! Centimeters! They converted distances to centimeters! HERESY!

Just kidding. Though can make for problematics if somebody tries to play with finnish rules against somebody with english rules and doesn't understand english(well okay checking number shouldn't be too hard since they are probably in same place but does require finnish user to keep 2 sets of cards...).

This assuming they have converted distances and not just have same numbers with new label. But if they have converted odds are good that you can't use both at same time...

Yes, I noticed that conversion from inches to centimeters, too. I think that the British rifle (I'm sorry, but I don't remember the designation) has a range of 60 cm and I am pretty sure that it doesn't have 60 inches range in the original rules.

It's nice to have the finnish rules. If only for the younger kids who can't read english.

I'm still going to use the original, english rules. I don't want to learn to play with centimetres when every game I play is in inches. Inches all the way!

Yep, inches to centimeters in the rulesheet. We discussed this during the translation process and it was decided that this game would likely sell elsewhere as well than just our own shop. And if it worked as an introduction to wargaming in places where the inch is not such a commonly accepted feature, the centimeter tapemeasures are much easier to come by and relate with for newer players.

For tournaments and such, and yes, there shall be tournaments and such, we will simply have to decide before games as to which measurements to use.

And yes, the distances have been calculated properly using the good and approved 2.5cm/1 inch scaling... this makes it impossible to mix and match but gives a reliable enough conversion if both players are using cm's...

And each box Will come with both the original and finnish version of everything the box holds... :D Besides finnish army men... About those you will have to talk to Mongoose...

The way our (finlands) current government is downsizing our army, I'm not sure we HAVE army in ten years... So I guess MEA figs are more than enough to rep finnish defense force in ten years. Our current weapon is a finnish copy of AK-47 anyway...

So, MEA for infantry and some OLD leopards for tanks... that's FDF for you.

Swedish translation? Has that been done yet? If not, who should I talk to? I'm a professional translator and used to work for Target Games a long time ago as an editor, translator, games developer and whatever, and I've translated just about everything from novels to non-fiction for the past 20 years. Doing a another set of game rules would be a fun break from the current miasma of tractors of the world and teach yourself golf! Last games I've translated were the 5th and 6th editions of Magic: The Gathering for the international starters and a couple of Middle-Earth boardgames for a Swedish boardgame maker (Alga), but that was ages ago!
