BF:Evo - Modern Combat. New Player. Some Questions

Mongoose
How do folks!

I'm brand new here, but not new to the hobby or Mongoose! In fact, i have even played a game of the old BF:Evo rules!

Anyway, down to business. I recently acquired a copy of the Modern Combat rulebook, and after having a scan through, got very excited at the prospect of collecting either a USMC or (and??) a US Army force...mainly due to the very cool kit they now have access to!

Now, as per normal i have decided to look into what i need to buy...and have become stumped! I know that Mongoose are now no longer producing minis for the forseeable future...so where do i go now. I've been looking through these forums, but even after a couple of hourse of trawling, i still have no idea where to really start!

First off, the Infantry. Many sizes and scales have been thrown around, and i've had a look at most of the suggestions on here. and so far, Black Scorpion Miniatures are the ones that have impressed me the most. Seems like i can get most the Infantry to a USMC army for £40! Not bad.

But now the problem...thats all the minis they produce. Now, if i want Land Warrior/Future Warrior minis, Rangers/Force Recon etc, i have no idea where to go. Plus, i think Black Scorpions stuff is slightly larger than normal at 29-30mm. Plus, any clues on Sword Talon teams??

Now thats just the infantry...as for the vehicles, seems like thats a whole other issue!! In this new rulebook, Mongoose have included some very cool bits of kit. The Apache Longbow, The F-35, the MV-22 Osprey, M1126/28 Styker, Black Hawks, Kiowa Warriors, Predator UCAV's, A10 Thunderbolts....the list goes on! Now, being a fan of the Future Weapons programme, Ghost Recon etc, all these things are going to be must haves in either or both US armies i collect. But what do i buy? There appears to be no real set scale for this. One person says 1/72, another says 1/64...i'm getting confused!

It seems like 1/72 is the more easily available in plastic kits (just about), but im not sure if they'll fit with the infantry.

So, i apologise for bringing this issue up again, but can someone give me some decent advice? Pics with examples of vehicles/aircraft next to infantry would be very appreciated.

Also, i should let you know that i'm not a massive fan of pre-painted stuff and definately not interested in buying die-cast toys. I usually prefer metals too. I like to get my hands dirty putting the things together :D

Thanks! 8)

I also like the Black Scorpion Miniatures a lot (some are even dusting on my shelf). 8)
Scales:
28mm = 1/56
32/34mm = 1/48 (would be OK for Black Scorpion Miniatures)

You will have a very hard time to get enough modern models in these scales.
That is the reason why so many of us switched to 20mm / 1/72...

1/72 will definitely not work for 28mm or larger infantry, maybe for Aircraft on high flight stands, but as soon as they are standing next to an infantry model it looks strange.

Cheers Agis.

I've just found the EvoCommand forum, and looking through there i stumbled upon this:

HLBS - Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company

They're 40mm. Seem to cover a whole range of cool infantry. So, just got to find the vehicles/aircraft to match

You reckon 1/48 would be ok?

Yup, 1/48 will fit. :D
But bear in mind that very few others will play in this scale! :(

Welcome Iridium_Fire! You're going through the same thing every Bf:Evo player is right now. Many people play 1/72 scale (20mm) and many go for the 28mm, but have a harder time finding vehicles in scale. Myself, it was the cheap pricing of 1/72 scale minis that pulled me in. As I collect more, I might start going for the 20mm infantry so I don't have to worry about the figures bending or flaking paint. Good hunting and keep us posted!

Hi all,

same problem here -getting the right sized miniatures etc. I wanted to get some modern australians in 1/72 scale. Impossible. I ended up cheating. eurekamin.com.au have a range of 28mm (1/56) scale aussies, so I went with them. They also have US marines, japanese, russian, middle eastern and what is called 'musorian' - which can be thought of as chinese armoured forces. See the 28mm range on their site. I bought from them, and played a game on it.

I have a 1/72 scale M113 APC which was diecast, but I then searched a range of sites.

This site reviews plastic miniatures at 1/72 scale. VERY amazing: http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Links.html

There is a range called zvezda inside the dragon models usa site. this caters for all aero things russian: http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/dmlusa/prodmidh.asp?tlcode=ZVE

armour is interesting. Airfix/Revell have some level of support at 1/72. I was looking for Diecast, and that's a bit limited....

Anyway - hope you enjoy those links.

Cheers,

mark

Well, that wont be a problem if i can convince the other guys down my club to buy their minis from the same place

So, if 1/48 fits...any recommendations for vehicles?

Cheers for the help guys, really appreciate it! :D
