Best way to keep track of unit members...????

Hi all,

I'm going to be sticking lavels to the underside of my EFTF Brit Infantry to identify them, in the style of the Wave 2 labels on my Command squad.

However, you won't be able to read these on the gaming table without lifting the mini, so my question...

Good ways to identify who belongs to which unit on the gaming table?

Easy answer would be to paint markings either on the soldiers, or maybe coloured lines/dots on the side of the base, but we all know I don't like painting  , so I'll probably pick up some small coloured dot labels and use those on the edges of the base.

Anyone else have any flashes of inspiration?

Ive painted the edges of some of my bases to denote gunners, sgts and corporals. The problem I seem to have more often than not is the issue of not knowing where to measure command from, or trying to figure out which of my marines facing away from me has the SAW. Addmittedly, I am in need of an optometrist appointment, but I couldnt see without picking them up. I just color coded the ring around the bases (Red, White, and Blue, both for patriotic value and because they are easy to see). Ive never had an issue of who belongs to which squad, my units are generally spread out.

the small numberstickers that you use for videotapes and stuff might help, you can even split them into fireteams 1A 1B etc

I was planning on using such designations, if only I hadn't thrown out all my old VHS label sheets.

THanks for the pointers

on my imperial guard i use a two color system on the side each base, the right color is the squad. and the left color is the platoon, quick and easy, i did 145 in a half hour :D

I've begun mounting mini barcodes on the rims of the bases of each mini, and backside of vehicles. A scanner connected to my handheld device reads the barcodes and tells me which character is which, and how they have fared for me in previous engagements.

Because a mini with bad mojo can throw off your whole game...

bit like my system of giving each a name middle name and surname and background history and learning it, there is no better feeling thn knowing every soldier by name, you should see all the grave stones in my back garden now !!!!

Yeah, something like that is what I'll go for, though I may use labels rather than paint.

(Hey, it's me remember, I still can't get over the fact I have minis that are painted  )

Maybe honor the soldiers KIA in action. At least for the USMC and Brits. (dont mean to sound sick or anything, just to honor those that paid the ultimate price) :?
