BATTLEFIELD EVOLUTION MINIATURES - BLACK CHARACTERS

Just wondering if there were any plans to produce any black/minority ethnic figures for the battlefield Evolution collection.

Seems a bit odd given the ethnic make-up of the British and American Armed forces that all their miniatures are white.

Shouldn't be much of a problem given that different characters/poses are regularly being produced.

actually theres not a huge ethnic make up of the british forces. yes you get ghurka regiments. and some regiments have alot of fijiians but theres not many "british" ethnic minorities in our armed forces.

Katadder,

Well, certainly not as many as there should be, which is why all branches of the UK Armed Services have launched specific BME recruiting campaigns. But there are certainly enough BME serviceman to warrant representation in a product like this. That's even more true of the US Armed Forces.

Like I said, I don't see there should be any problem given the individual, (and despite some of the criticism, in my view high quality), nature of the miniatures.

I'd be interested get some feedback from Mongoose on this though.

Locutus9956,

Sorry, only just seen your response.

I didn't realise I was making a politcal statement. I was just asking why
figures representing armies comprised of significant numbers of BME
troops have no BME characters.

It's perfectly normal for people to make requests like, "I'd like to see a character with a super sizemic flamethrower" or whatever; I'd just like to see a couple of BME characters.

If you want to stick to armies that are all white, of course that's up to you.

Personally I'd like the choice.

It pretty much boils down to production costs. More colors and more poses equal higher production cost, which means the models cost more for the consumer. That's why the PLA Infantry squad, with 10 models, only comes in 4 poses. If you want minority troops, that's cool, just repaint them as such. The models are a high quality plastic, not the bendy "clix" type, so it should be easy to do.

Sorry if that came across wrong Dan, I wasnt specificially refering to you ;)

Rather, there was a very similar thread here not too far back which rapidly turned into a gigantic argument about political correctness etc and frankly got a bit nuts :P

havent seen that many, not counting commonwealth troops like the Fijiians and Ghurkas i can probably count the amount of ethnic minorities in the UK armed forces i have seen on one hand, maybe spill onto 2.

Locutus: No offence taken. I didn't realise this had been covered before. Although I don't see any response from Mongoose.

Shotgun: Thanks, but I'm going to buy pre-painted minis specificall to avoid breaking out my own paint brush. And I don't understand the 'production cost argument'. If you're creating individual sculpts, why can't one or two of them be Black characters.

Katadder: There are more than 10 ethnic minority troops in the British Armed Forces, trust me.

Hi guys,

Okay, last word from us on this :)

We did not produce any 'ethnic' characters in the first run of BF Evo because, frankly, there were a million and one potential hiccups in this project, and we did not want to over complicate things any more than they were.

However, now things are getting routine, we can look at doing things like this. It is likely that the first such models will appear in the USMC Force Recon Team, in wave 3.

And, of course, we do have Ghurkas planned for later in the year. . .

i know there are, but they are lucky if they make up 1% or we would see more. i am just saying what i have seen not counting commonwealth troops.
