Battle Spells of Cult of Glorantha

Itto

Mongoose
There are a number of spells in Cults of Glorantha that are battle orientated but don’t have any clear game mechanic influence within the Mass Warfare rules within Legendary Heroes.

So here is a stab at giving some the battle orientated spells a Mass Warfare effect. All the Magnitude and spell stats stay the same.

Command Troops.
After being cast the next Battle Action the Commander gives that requires a Command test automatically succeeds.

Rally Troops
The unit commanders troops Morale is increased by his Lore (Specific Theology).

Morale
Works as in the book, as the boost to weapon skill will increase both Morale and the fighting effectiveness of the troops.

Battle Song
Due the amount of time he will have to play the caster has to make a resilience roll each battle turn to continue playing the magicaly rousing tune.

Also my NPC generator now also does battle sheets for the Mass Warfare rules. Which got me thinking about these spells effects in the first place.

CoG was written without knowdge of Legendary Heroes' contents or any inkling of the mass combat rules (or that there even were any!).

I'd figured as much from some of the other things that have gone on, I was in no way saying that CoG was lacking. Just that with the additional rules of mass combat it would be good to try and thrash out what effect some of the published spells would have upon a battle using the mass warefare rules.

I'm hoping to have a mass battle occure sometime in the near future and have been pooring over the books trying to picture how I'm going to handle it.

Let us know how it turns out.

I'd love to see how the Battle rules work, but my campaign isn't really suitable for massed battles.
