Captain Gordon read the dispatch in his hand and looked out over the sea. Word had reached the Captain about the sinking of the HMS York, his sister ship and the recent losses on the campaign. The Admiralty had sent him his orders, engage a Japanese Cruiser group moving towards Singapore. Orders were sent to the rest of the fleet. As they sighted the Japanese he sent a further message, England expects every man will do his duty. Turning to the bridge crew he gave the order to engage and said loudly over this ships intercom, this one is for the HMS York!

Scenario Bonus: (Only shown to RN player)
RN - HMS Exeter must survive ( +3 XP )

(T1) Both forces surge forward towards each other and the Victorious lauches Swordfish and fighters. Exeter fires long range hitting and damaging the Jintsu. Kako fired at the edge of range at the Achilles, hitting but doing no damage, who then fired upon the Jintsu hitting, but doing no damage. The Aoba fired on the Exeter with all batteries, missing with every shot. Leander fired it's fore batteries at the Isuzu hitting and damaging, but missing the Aoba with the aft. Leander came under fire from the Kinugasa but suffered no damage.

(T2) The fleets jostle for position, the RN desperate to keep out of any possible torpedo arcs. The swordfish start their attack runs, one flight on the Isuzu, and two on the Aoba. The Aoba unleashes it's secondary batteries against the Leander causing no damage and it's primary turrets at the Achilles causing minimal damage then launched her torpedoes against the Leander. Her AA batteries lay down a heavy curtain of fire, but fail to shoot down the biplanes. The Omega Squadron fires torpedoes at the Jintsu and the Kako and open fire on the Jintsu scoring visible hits! Isuzu shoots down the swordfish trying to attack her and open fire on the Achilles hitting but doing no damage. Isuzu torpedoes Exeter. The Exeter torpedoes the Kinugasa and misses with her secondary batteries but hits the Isuzu with her main turrets crippling the ship! The Kinugasa torpedoes the Achilles and hits but does little damage to her with her full complement of weapons. The Leander torpedoes the Isuzu and opens up on the Aoba with all the main and secondary turrets scoring several hits but visibly little damage. The Kako torpedoes the Exeter, hits and damages one of the K Class destroyers with its secondary batteries but fail to damage the Exeter with it's primary turrets. The Achilles broadsides the Aoba doing considerable damage. The Jintsu opens up on the damaged destroyer doing no damage. Kako almost succumbs to the destroyers torpedoes becoming crippled and loosing 2 turrets to the explosions. The Jintsu takes enough damage from the torpedo hits to cause considerable flooding and rolls over shortly before a massive explosion tears apart one of the magazines. The Kinugasa shrugs off the minimal damage from the Exeters torpedoes. Meanwhile though the two fairy swordship flights, dodging an increasingly heavy curtain of AA fire from the Japanese ships manage to line up their shots and release with characteristic coolness. The Aoba is stricken and crippled, but the extra damage done by the multiple fires that have spread through the ship leave it a burning hulk which starts to slowly sink. The torpedoes from the Leander break the spine on the crippled Isuzu sending it to the bottom.

(T3) The remaining swordfish head back to rearm whilst almost the entire Royal Navy begin making evasive maneauvers, the Captain of the Exeter screaming it twice to make it so (XP dice ftw)! The Omega Squadron closes on the crippled Kako and rake it with their batteries until it sinks. The Kinugasa broadsides the evading Achilles, a lucky shell passing through a preivous hit and exploding in the main magazine. The explosion cripples the ship, but is not enough to sink it.. yet. The concentrated fire of the other RN ships, still evading puts short work to the Kinugasa which slips beneath the waves. The Leander evades most of the torpedoes but still takes considerable damage. The Achilles evades all the torps fires at it. The Exeter evades the Kako's torpedo's (6,6 to 2,3) but has placed it self in the way of the Isuzu's torpedoes!
(Note: Okay at this point 10 points of damage was done to an 11/3 cruiser with 1 critical hit left.... talk about tension... IJN rolls on critical table... 6.... 6! Vitals! Then a 1. I bounced around laughing my arse off... then he reminds me about his last XP dice.... and re-rolled another 1!!!)

As the last Japanese Cruiser slid beneath the waves the mournfull hooting of the ships sirens sound, celebrating the victory and praising the memory of the HMS York.
