Athwa sector in the Starter Set

If I read travellermap.com correctly, the Athwa system, and the Esseray as a major thread, from the campaign "The Fall of Tinath" are too far away from the charted space around the Third Imperium to be reached by the fleeing fleet in a mere couple of lifetimes or is Athwa closer to the Imperium than assumed?

It's meant to be far away from the Third Imperium.

So this is literally the Traveller version for Battlestar Galactica. So it is a true sandbox with ultimate freedom. I even could imagine running the series (original series, not the reboot) off.^^

Any idea if the authors had an explanation of how humans got that far from Terra? Or as far as we know, is it completely up to the referee and his imagination?
