Armour in MRQ...

Howdy,

Does the 'Arms & Armour' book go into more detail about armour, options, etc.?

Does it go into more detail about types (bezanted, etc.)? I still use RQIII, but it would be nice for people new to RQ to have more options.

There is following sections in book:

Credits & Contents
Introduction
Questing Gear & Basics
Weaponry
Armour
Transport & Buildings
Beasts & Cohorts
The Rare & Wondrous
Reference section

In Questing Gear & Basics section, there is special (and not so special of course) clothings, like Assassin's vest etc.

In Armour section, there is quite a lot additional armour available (like Bone, Enlamelled, Serpentmail, wooden, Gladiator Armour, False Plate etc)

Also, there is section about modifying armours (bladed, camouflaged, muted, reinforced, spiked and wintered).

Also you can find information about Alternate Armour materials, Monster hide armours and Repairing Armour.

The book is really good, I would recommend it to anyone who wish to have more gearing options for adventurers.

EDIT. I am talking about "Arms & Equipment" book. Is this the same you are talking about?

there's quite a bit of armour, some stuff on materials, and ways to modify sets of armour.

I was extremely happy with this book, which is funny, since I figured I wouldnt really care much

Great book. 1 PLayer who wanted a set of plate but couldn't afford it has bought a set of the false plate, so he has the look without the cost until he can afford the full thing. The armour moding rules are really good, allowing for a vast variety of armour types and appearances. The riding beasts section is particularly useful as well.

All in All a good buy.

I was planning to buy a complete mishmash of armour... Enammeled breastplate... Plate grieves... Gladiator Skirt... Vambraces of some sort... A full plate helm... I would have looked very strange indeed...

But then I realised whilst wearing the armour I would have been as effective as a chocolate teapot in combat so I decided not to buy for the time being...

Howdy,

Yeah, if armour was THAT restrictive with respect to your fighting skill, it would rarely be worn....

I think that armour should affect ENC and fatique, initiative/SR, as well as some physical skills. Affect combat skills? Perhaps only as a result of fatique/ENC.

The MRQ armour ENC values are *much* lower than the old RQII/III weights... but then they also have that combat/skill penalty. I will probably use the old ENC values (usually at least 2-3 times the MRQ ones), and just do a flat minus-ENC to certain physical skills (and, of course, minus 3-5xENC for swim!).

I just use the penalty for stuff like swimming, climbing and such. So far we havent used in on dodging, but we might consider that in the future. Im not keen on reverting to the RQ3 days of noone being able to dodge though.
