Armor: Comparison Shots

Mongoose
Hi,

First of all, if the mods feel that this somehow go against MPG forums rules or intellectual property, just close the topic as I won't be offended by that.

I've take some side-by-side comparison photos of BF:EVO armor models, together with some 1:72 models I have in my personal collection, just for the sake of comparison.

I'm on the search of 1:64 models, but until then the 1:72 ones will do for the comparisons.

Challenger II MBT

(the 1:72 model is a Easy Model Ground Armor Challenger II)

The Easy Model is greater than the MGP one (?)

Abrams MBT

(the 1:72 model is a Forces of Valor M1A2 Abrams)

The FoV model is smaller.

Abrams MBT

(the 1:64 model is a Corgi Tactical Strike M1A1 Abrams)

In terms of comparison between the models, they are extremely similar in size, as can be seen above. And to compare them with some figures at their side:

nice fgs.

as i like to play at touneys i sorta favour putting my money intot he MGP ones, there also lighter to carry :)

but i do like the other types around.

end of the day its about vailablity i guese, stuff like shadows for example arnt that available

scale wise your find alot of the die cast stuff is slightly over scale so it works well.

the MGP ones feel like wargames figs to me the Corgi and Dragon stuff i have dont for some weird reason.

i think mongoose should do a set of stats that use comersialy available kits, would save them producing figs they dont need to, but be able to produce a book to fill the gaps that we can buy and allow those with modling skills to have a play.

You probably don't know, but the Easy Models are extremely light.

They are similar in look to the Dragon Armor 1:72 ones, but there is a big difference in weight.

And in price, also. The one present in the pictures above was cheaper than the MPG or the FOV one.

But were they prepainted?
The Easy Models one?

Yes.
The one in the picture above came just out of the box into the picture.
The detail and paint finishing level rivals Dragon Armor.

I just saw one of these last night at my FLGS, the level of detail is very nice and the painting clean. The tracks are rubber and flex a litte. Very nice models. I won't be getting any as I couldn't demo or play in offical tournies with them but I can't blame the people that are looking at getting some.

The quality on some of the "other" models are better - looking at the front edge on the challenger hull.

I guess it comes down to availability, cost and whether people want to paint or not

The Advanced Rulebook should contain all the stats. I do like alot of MGP models though - Technicals for MEA etc...

I like the side armor on the MGP Challenger, but that die cast tank really makes the MGP one look bad. Especially considering that it's already painted as well, and to a higher quality.

Makes you wonder why the MGp one is like it is and still costs 25US compared to nearly any other die cast scale tank. Especially when I have seen two packs of these on ebay for less than the price of one MGP one (I saw the Scots royal guard one for 9.00US +7.50 S&H).

BTW, the Easy Models tanks are1/72 scale pre-built plastic tanks. They are made by Trumpeter. The detail on these tanks is variable, but tends to be good to very good in detail. The tanks are light weight, being 100% plastic, but at lease Easy Models, unlike Dragon, makes no assertions about metal content. The weathering is fair to good.

In the Challenger II, you also have models up-armored, like the one:

Thanks for the pics. Boy, the Mongoose ones look really bad next to those. I really hope the quality improves on wave 2. I'd go Forces of Valor if they had more of a spread of figures.

I'd especially put in my vote for either Drangon Armor die cast tanks or the Easy plastic ones(I don't think you can get them out of the UK, though).

Especially because my 25 dollar Battlefield Evo tank came with a deglued barrel rattling around in the box and with the barrel broken off the mg on the turret(and nowhere to be found).

They will fix it up for you.

My Machine gunner in my PLA infatry box was missing the last forward piece of his MG & they are sending me a new one in the mail (PLA Machine gunner).

I had contact back from Ted of MGP in less than 12 hours.

After sales service for me has been really good! :D

I have also dealt with MGP regarding a missing arm for a Grizzly (SST) and was impressed that they put one in the post and it was on my door step within 2 days of my emailing them to say I was missing the arm.

my up an coming Brit army although the chl is from FOV i think it looks far better than the mongoose one as this has the extra armour, realistic decals, antennae and commander ready to be snipered :D

Regarding the search for 1:64/65 scale military vehicles - aside from the Corgi M1, Bradley & Hummer pictured to death on these boards...

...THERE AREN'T ANY :!: :!: :!: :!:

If the Mongoose vehicles are the same size as generally available 1/72 scale vehicles (which my personal observation would support as well) and if the generally available 1/72 scale models are nicer and/or less expensive (both sadly appear to be the case) then logic would dictate using 1/72 scale models (as they are more available and in greater variety) would be a viable, if not preferable, alternative to the Mongoose offerings -

by extension - if you choose to go the smaller Mongoose vehcile/ 1/72 scale vehicle route - does it not make sense to then use 1/72 scale infantry - which IS "in scale" with the vehicles and available in greater variety and is more commonly available?

As for me - I will buy the Mongoose infantry and muddle around using 1/50 - 1/48 vehicles that while a little large are (for me) the lesser of 2 scale evils.

Just my $0.02 on a rainy Friday morning - your mileage may vary!
