My real motivation for this poll is to work on improving my poll making abilities. Voriof tells me I can that punk Elmal's religeon disbanded if I get good enough at it (I'm counting on Burdock for the babes anyway).

But I am curious where 'we' stand around here.

 You forgot the "I can't vote my real opinion because it was left out of this poorly designed poll"!

I'm with the grogs on alterations to Glorantha, but I think RQ is more than just Glorantha and I'm of the old school that says game rules are meant to be just the starting point for House Rules.

I'm not sure what to vote. F'rex, you and Atgxtg are adamant old edition fans, but I find your presence here invaluable and you guys contribute (at least, Atgxtg did, before he left) in a huge way. Yet you consider yourselves OKELHWUDI:S:DNWQMDKW or whatever the acronym was, right?

On the flip side, back when the forum first went live, there were people who held the exact same views as you but presented them in some profoundly pathetic and/or childish ways.

Hence my dilemma.

The very first RPG I ever played was RQ2 in 1981 or 1982. I've loved Glorantha and BRP/d100 ever since.

I thought you were my age, or something.

My information must be wrong, unless you were playing when you were 0, 1 or 2.

This does not bode well for me getting Elmal removed. I may be moshing with Trolls for a while now.

If there is any confusion as to which way to vote, it is best to choose the top option. Statistics show that is most likely the right answer, and your Standardized Test Score will likely be higher as a result of it.

I started playing when I was eleven or twelve.

Wonder where you figured my age from? It must be my youthful looks and boundless energy.

Well I've been playing since the GW boxed set, switched to RQ3 and have played and run in Glorantha (pretty much all the published stuff, some of the Judge's Guild stuff and my own 100 year campaign set in Jonatela during the Ban), run DragonLance, twice, run a Thieves World campaign which somehow turned into pirates, played in a Gateway campaign with a bunch of Uz) and looking forward to running a G2A campaign at sometime.

I like the MRQ rules but find them a little underdone; I may prefer the revised BRP, don't know yet. That said I'm happy to use MRQ as a base for my homebrew verson. Heck I even had a so badly edited that they made no sense set of sorcery rules published in Avalon Hill's old Heroes magazine.

Not completely convinced by Mongoose so far but I've bought most of the stuff so they're definitely doing something right.

Yeah, I don't think Elmal isn't going anywhere. I was a little amused to see the presence of Yelmalio in the Second Age, but then realized that the Yelmalio in question is just the public name for the Daysenerus-Tharkantus cult. It certainly isn't the Yelmalio of Sun County fame.

For those who have no idea what I am talking about, don't worry. Basically, Elmal is the Orlanthi sun. Yelmalio is a newish sun cult (founded in the late First Age) that has adherents in some Orlanthi lands (particularly Saird and Holay). At this point in time, nobody is mixing Elmal and Yelmalio up (excepted confused God Learners trying to deal with the problem of the Many Suns).

Yes, that was my intent. However, I simply couldn't find my reference to "Daysenerus" so did not include the name lest I acceidently use the similar sounding aspect of "Orlanth That Kicks The Ass of the Other Elements."

Yelmalio was used for continuity. There's a lot of folks who like the old names or simply don't know them. Yelmalio Tharkantus (or whatever I wrote in) was the best compromise I could think of. Haveta balance that Gloranthan purist with actually having something playable by everyone eles. Besides, if you note in the Yelm writeup, I've tried to use the various namnes.

Something like that. :) But as I said, I have to deal with the practical nature of writing and a limited word-count (which was more limiting and limited than I originally thought).

Not sure where the quote comes from.
Daysenaras is a mystic path to the sun, rather than a purely divine one, - Daysenaras 'worship' is about trying to direct contact the power of Sun, rather than indirectly via an intermediary deity.

This was taken from the Issaries web site many red moons ago (he may have changed his take on this since of course).
Daysenerus and Tarumath
By Greg Stafford
Daysenerus and Tarumath were two deities introduced by Nysalor to the people of the World Council. Each was a deity with a mystical component to teach worshippers the ultimate liberation as taught by Nysalor. Both cults went awry as worshippers failed to understand and uphold the lofty principles of Nysalor.
Daysenerus
High Sun introduced by Nysalor.
Daysenerus iluminted three devotees at the Battle of Night and Day. The first was General Elmgatum, who was so filled he was taken right to Wisdom and his body expired. The second was Lord Perides, who built he first sun Dome Temple at Vaantes after the battle. Third was Lord Palangio, who seized the power for his personal selfish use. Many temples were founded over the next decades, but they were nearly all destroyed in Arkat's devastating counterattack at the end of the Gbaji Wars. Daysenerus is worshipped in modern Glorantha under the name of Yelmalio.

Amazing what you can find lurking on your hard drive.

Ach-phoot Yelmalio is the spawn of Chaos,
Long live the true sun, Elmal

I chose the top option. I began playing RQ in 1982 and was hooked on BRP (including Pendragon).....

there is no RQ without Glorantha.

I don't think it is giving any secrets away to say to say I was already married with kinder when I got hooked on RQ2 around about 79/80 so it has been a long time. This doesn't colour my opinon however, as all the people who know me state with absolute conviction that I was born a Grumpy Old Man. So people, the Top Option is a foregone conclusion for my vote .

P.S. 'She who must be obeyed' has just said there is another Oldie to be counted

Been a Gloranthaphile since 1980 and proud of it and been grumpy since 1966 so guess it had to be choice no.1. Hope The 'Geese are taking note of how many are voting No.1.

RQ2 was my first and true love. I must have been 11 or so when my friends and I started playing in 1982/83. My first ever RQ adversary was Biglaugh Bigclub who killed me second melee round.
