Apoc's Spacecraft Design Worksheet

It is basically ready for public use. As I say in the worksheet, this is NOT a generator. I don't think it qualifies as "software," since it's just a spreadsheet that does a bunch of math.

That said, if there's a problem with it, I'll remove it upon request.

A few comments:

It's Excel 2007 only. I apologize to all those without this version of Excel, but there are too many nice new features for me to do the work in Excel 2003 or earlier.

This is for spacecraft (100-2000 tons) only. I'll whip up a small craft and capital ship sheet as time allows, and it's likely that the small craft sheet will appear much sooner than the capital ship one.

I'm sure it's got bugs, so when you find one, please post it in this thread.

Also, I don't use macros, so it's not super-fancy. You will find a lot of in-built errors and cell reference issues, but those are actually all fine if you've got the various selections actually made (this is mostly for the weapons part).

The Output page can be directly converted to a PDF by Excel 2007, so that's probably how I'll use it the most.

Enjoy and, of course, I make no guarantees it works 100% properly!

Oh yea, this template is actually a fully designed experimental frigate for Round 2 of Octagon's tournament. Not sure if I'll use it, but you can use the current design as a guide, or you can go through and "reset" the whole thing (again, no macros, so no magic button).

In the Output page (which is where the template opens to because that's where I happened to be when I saved it--just click Design to get to the design sheet), there are some hidden cells. These can be spotted by making sure that the Cell numbers are sequential. If they aren't, you can unhide the cells by selecting the two non-sequential rows and right-clicking and selecting Unhide.

Oh a word of warning: there are little calculations hidden everywhere in white text. ONLY type in or change cells that are colored light blue.

I just uploaded a new version, which fixes a bug and adds the DM for the sensor system. I also cleared the sheet, so now it's set at a nearly empty 100 ton hull with no name.

OK great so far. Works with Open Office 3.2 no probs.

Small error in crew calcs. in original version.

preferred if add fission PP

Add proper hangars and separate small craft from their hangars

so Maybe
Component - Minimal hangar - nominal size cost etc
Component - maintenance Hangar - nominal size cost etc
Small craft xtons cost each etc

have an emty(blank) selection in drop downs

regards

Cells I28:I28 incorrect value for ABH (.02 should be .2)

By the way. I have corrected mine as i go along. Happy to send it to you if you wish.

regards

Cell H:54 cost multiplier should be .2 not .1

Cell F93, F106, F119 etc cost multiplier should be .2 not .1

Cell E260 missing last two round values (0)
should be: =ROUNDUP(G26/50;0)+ROUNDUP(G27/50;0)+ROUNDUP(G28/50;0)

Cell E261: should read =D254/120

regards

The tech level changes to price for weapons only work with turret and fixed mounts but not for barbettes, bays etc. So A TL11 particle barbette with 3 upgrades still costs 8 MCr.

Just a note great one - my examples are from Open office 3.2, and so it uses ";" where you have "," I think. I have added some field to see how it goes - will send you a PM

regards and MANY thanks.

I am not sure the costs for hull armour are correct. The examples seem to indicate you need to multiply the cost by configuration modifiers and use that as the basis for the armour cost.

Many thanks, this will be VERY helpful. Let me be the first to encourage adding all the optional stuff. Were you thinking of doing a capital ship version??

Hello
I think, though I could be wrong.
Compact Bridge option is calculating wrong - should be that amount deducted from the Tonnage?.
Also the cost is wrong, the HG errata says +10%.

Main problem I have is typical of most of the worksheets for ship design.

Hull configuration is set at 100/200/300/etc, rather than allowing an input of range so that if I wanted a 250 ton ship I could. :(

Is this a major problem with the lookup function? (ie range rather than a set number?

Thanks.

Nah, it's just the way the design system is presented. It would be a slight headache to fix due to the way the tables are organized.
