Ancients Box Set - First Impressions

Mongoose
Hi guys,

Picked this up in my FLGS this afternoon, took it home.

Comments on packaging :
The box is way too big, which doesn't help the more fragile bits, see lster
The $US price on the back is wrong, it says $99.95

Comments on the minis:

Dark Knife: Nice mini, came with a slotted base though, I'll try and wangle a flying base off Mongoose at Masters of War

Triumviron: nice model, though the support strut seems to be a little misshapen in transit, nothing some careful bending eon't fic, but better packing would help.

Lordship : Nice model, came with a small flying base rather than a large one though. But I think that a small one is big enough, but it is an Ancient ship so I'd have preferred a large one just for on table presence.

Thoughtforce: Very nice mini, though every single spine was bent in, no doubt happened in transit (see box size and packing comments), nothing I can't undo though. Lesson learned from the Civilian SPace Liner comes in handy here, there are ghuides for slotting the sections together.

Traveller: NICE MODEL!!!!! Fits together well, could really do with a metal base, so I know which ship is 6th inline for my 6 bases, after my 3 VCDs and 2 Poseidons.

All in all I'm very happy with the box, though metal bases would be nice as standard for all ACTA ships.

For the Traveler, I actually recommend altering the base placement so that you can actually see all the detail on the domed portion. In the below pic you can kind of see how I re-did mine.

I actually drilled out the post on the base and then took a large paperclip and used that as the support. I left a lot of extra metal on the clip and bent it so that I could slide it between the struts at the traveler's core and then glue it in place.

But then it is just a simple matter to add a few drops of your favourite brand of cyanoacrylate and make the fit more permanent.

Shouldn't that be the Grolsh fleet?

Nope, Carlsberg, probably the largest unpainted ACTA fleet in the world.

OR

LBH doesn't do painted ACTA fleets, but if he did, it'd probably be the best in the world.

Though I do like the Grolsch connection as well

LBH how many support ships did the grey council's sharlin have?

In which instance, I remember Dukhat saying they would only take a few support vessels when they were doing the Z'Ha'Dum run when they ran into the Prometheus, but in more general situations, I don't know.
