An Idea: SST Core Rulebook - free as pdf

As I am deeply involved in the roleplaying scene (I'm actually working in a team to write our own RPG) I recognised that many RPG Core Rulebooks where available free as pdf's.
It makes sense - they can be downloaded by any users and will be spread across the globe via Internet or USB-Sticks (and even if they are not available you will get them when you just search with the right tools).

So why don't put the SST Core Rulebook up as a free download?
Then you can show it to others (non-SST-Players), discuss about the rules and get someone in the game without carrying your own rulebook to him.

It doesn't spoil SST much - you still need the Arachnid/MI/Skinnie Army Books when you want to play a full scale force. And anyone who want's to play it will order the basic box anyway (it's simply the cheapest way to get some modells) or buy the rulesbook (a hardcover book is better than a bunch of papers which still cost you more than half of the book's price).

But it would help a lot in spreading the game. I wouldn't have to explain and explain again anyone interested in the game (most time they have seen my bugs in other forums and then ask me about the game) - I could just give them a link and say: 'Read!'

And then I would be free to discuss because there would be no need to explain everything over and over again ('you have 2 actions each turn, these may be move, shoot or charge...' - I can't see it anymore).

*cough* SST Evo *cough*

I'd guess it quite likely the rules sheet will be available for free some time just as the BF Evo one is going to be. A good way to sell miniatures is to not need the big bulky rulebook in the first place :)

But it is a good idea essentially - I've always advocated free rulebooks for miniatures games. Not like the lack of rulebook sales really makes any dent in the profits - most profit comes from the miniatures themselves, and the extra miniatures sold should easily compensate for losing out on that little bit of rulebook revenue.

With SST being "reborn" soon, I'd guess any promotional efforts would be based on the new version and not the current one, though.
