Air Dropped Torpedos

Evening,

Ok first question where exactly do the carrying planes have to be positioned in relation to the target ship. Is it adjacent, 4" away or somewhere in between?

I was running a squadron of 4 ships, line abreast with about 2" separation, starting about 1" or so from the table edge. Can the torpedo bombers conduct attack runs on the inner ships and can they fly over the squadron and attack from the small amount of space from the table edge, against the first ship?

They can be dropped anywhere from 0" to 4" away from the ship but if a ship is blocking it the blocking ship will be hit. this is why they have 0" or 1" range to get in between ships.
