Hi again,

the scale comparison is up.
I am still missing the 1/6000 Graf Spee, but I have included a 1/2400 vs 1/6000 Gneisenau.

GHQ Graf Spee vs Skytrex/DAVCO Graf Spee:

GHQ Gneisenau vs Magister Militum(Hallmark) Gneisenau:

Yeah, I ordered some sample mini's. GHQ (1:2400), Navwar (1:3000), and Hallmark (1:6000). The detail on the GHQ stuff is fantastic, I'm aready sold on them. Not recieved the Navar stuff yet, but I have received the Hallmark Mini's. Whilst the Hallmark stuff is detailed for its scale, its too small IMHO.

I can't agree more. Up to PL Battle I will alwas go for 1/2400.
On PL War I will go for 1/6000...

BTW: Nice paintjob on the Exeter. Only thing I do not like are the waves. Too big for my taste.
Have you ever tried Vallejo water effects (I always take 26204 Atlantic Blue)? :?:

You can brush it on! :)

No doubt about it the 1/2400 are very nice models. I will get a few as one off models, but will stick to 1/3000 for gaming as it is the best compromise for size, numbers, affordability etc..

Really good paint jobs, as always :)

I also would, but Skytrex/Navco was just too bad to be true.
The Graf Spee is OK, but I also got the Aktmark and some Convoy ships, they are absolut horrible! :( :(

Do you know any better ship provider?

Hey the Atlantic is a rough place :D

I had no water effect, well not that you can brush on. So I used green putty, as the next best thing. I'll have a look at Vallejo, I use their paints, so I know they do good stuff. :)

Trust me - it is just more convenient...

I don't really. I have seen a company called Denian Models mentioned around which is supposed to make 1:3000. Maybe Wulf or DM know more about that.
The War Times Journal does some 1:3000 - but they are pre-dreadnoughts.

Agis, thanks for the tip on the water effects...looks intrigueing, I may give it a try. I wasn't looking to base any ships I do, but now I'm having second thoughts.

Base them, as they will be harder to lose in the carpet that way  .

Hey Agis, I got some Vallejo water effects atlantic blue in the mail today and it's a lot lighter than I thought it would be. Do you mix it with other paints or paint a dark blue on your bases first?

Good question Searge, as mine is on its way to me :)

Nope, no other paints...
However - I am not using the Vallejo water effect as a finisher.

Here is what I do:
1 - Assemble model
2 - Cut plasticard in shape
3 - glue model to plasticard
4 - apply Vallejo watereffect with an old brush, "sculpt" the waves on
5 - prime the whole thing after drying
6 - paint the model, including the sculpted water surface
7 - aplly matt varnish to the ship and glossy varnish to the sea surface

Hope that helps...

You have a lot of freetime :D . This stuff sounds interesting though.

I work 12 hour shifts, 4 on 4 off nights and days. Next door are upgrading their bungalow, to a house (yep they are adding another floor). So I'm not getting much sleep during the day, making some models as a way to chill out :)
