I would like to curse Mongoose Publishing! Yes on their own forum...
Every few months I think "Finally I'll kick SST. Finally. I've waited so long and... no shiny aircraft."
Then I'll flick my iPod onto Random as I'm in Czech - probably made by Skoda - aircraft ascending towards the ground, the crafts shaking in the -50-70 degrees C outside. The wings are icy... runway icy... engine is reving oddly...
*Thank my 20 hours of flight for that knowledge...* to land in St Petersburg. And a 'song' comes on its the SST 'Battle Theme' from the 1st movie.
And despite having 2 seriously hot girls next to you - you think for a split second, "**** this is why I started it. Its like.... sooo coool."
Your thoughts then flip to your partially constructed Starship for 40k (and possibly SST usage as well....) and the promise of very shiny new models in August... after you get your summer job...
And as the aircrafts being thrown around like a tincan, you think, "No WONDER we lost on Klendathu, bleeding Skoda armed the MI."
Then you hit the ground, rather roughly, and you are alive, at least on this part of the trip, Chariots of Fire comes on over the intercom and all of the Russkis cheer.
Its the wait of it all, the mad flight, and frankly ****ing yourself that the plane wont make it. But it does, and at the end you get some hot Czech airline girl grinning at all of you.
The new gen. of SST is just like that its not love/hate - its the trepidation of seeing what will emerge from Mongoose's vast forges.
Prepaints? Do I really care? Yes. If I dislike them I have 60 LAMI to paint, and around 30 or so PAMI, and a Marauder and some Exosuits. If qualitys not amazing then I'll work out how to 'super detail them' it'll free up assloads of time for my starship.
Remember back to its launch a couple of years ago... standing in Salute shiny box in hands and handing over my money to buy it. We were all excited over the new dropships. Hell my mate and me had a game around 4 months ago and he said 'bleeding beats the hell outta 40k' with Aliens on in the background.
Thats what it comes down to, we've waited this long and I expect good things from it, and it'll free up my time to actually... shock horror - play games.
If only Mongoose stop churning out decent exciting games that really threaten my poor student wallet - as few places if any do student discount... - then I can finally stop.
