Afterburners

Target

Mongoose
I just wondering why we have afterburners, Star Furies don't seem to go any faster than other races fighters.
I think Sinclair says something about afterburners when trying ram all other times they just say maximum burn as in max speed.
It's also a pain to keep track of, why not just increase the speed on average and be done with it.
Save paperwork.
I also imagine every fighter has afterburners & thats why they faster than ships. They are always zooming faster than caps but we have fighters that are slower than ships, doesn't make much sense.
Also why do the Abbai have the Kotha when they could buy Delta V's instead, a better fighter & most likely cheaper since the raiders have them.

um, because they are EA ;-)
no, don't make furies faster, they are more than fast enough, and the armegeddon upgrades were plain stupid, I know Mongoose want to make EA the dogs proverbials as they are there best sale item, but we see nothing in the show to suggest that a starfury is soo superior to a Frazi, or a Kotha, or other fighters. We also see nothing to suggest that the EA will hugely outnumber Boneheads but there you go...

I'd rather not have the bookkeeping, to be sure. Extensive bookkeeping is the primary problem with ACTA.

How about just making it a CQ check or something (allow Squadrons to take together (with a modifier maybe for more ships).

LESS BOOKKEEPING IS GOOD

I have to agree that I do not like afterburners.

Main reasons are two fold. First is the increase in things you have to tracks. Since we eliminated the CQ from dogfights (or standardized it more precisely) we no longer have any reason to track each flight except for afterburners. And while tokens are certainly a solution, we already have so many things on the table it looks cluttered with order makers, and markers for who moved, who fired...etc... Additionally, many folks have based their fighters in ways that do not make that convenient.

The second reason is a balance one. One use things tend to make fighters harder to balance. Lunge range is a big deal on who effective fighters can be, and afterburners give a big boost in lunge range, but only once. Hard to price adequately how a flight performs over the long haul vs that initial hit. Especially as many games are over before the long haul hits.

Have you played the old B5 Wars? I have, and to be honest, after that game it never came to my mind that ACTA actually has too much bookkeeping... but thinking of it, yes, sometimes it get´s a hard to follow with the crits and all

I actually think all fighters should be faster, I don't mind them being slower than Vorchans & Whitestars when they APTE but otherwise they should be faster than all caps.
