Adventure Ideas for an Interstellar Delivery Company

Pyromancer

Mongoose
I'm starting a Traveller campaign centered on a small, interstellar delivery company. The company consists mainly of the PCs, their home base on Flammarion and an old, demilitarizied Gazelle Close Escort. I promised my players down-to-earth, lightly comical or bizarre adventures, a mixture of Futurama and Firefly.

Their ad looks like this:
---
Dangerous? Delicate? Urgent?
Money is not an issue?
WE TAKE CARE OF IT!
I.F.D.S. - Interstellar Fetch and Delivery Service
---

What clients might knock on their door? What cargos to deliver? Special circumstances? Problems? Encounters? Complications?

Most of the adventures at Freelance Traveller don't inherently meet the 'down-to-earth, lightly comical or bizarre adventures, a mixture of Futurama and Firefly' criteria (although there are a couple whose premises may be considered 'bizarre'), but a creative GM might well be able to do something with many of the adventures in Active Measures or Getting Off The Ground...

Ohhh how about a cargo of retrovirii (for modifiying humans for a colonization of a hostile world).

Small but delicate, yet ohh so hmmm delicously dangerous?

Theres a water world down near the Five Sisters / District 256 ? area that has heavy metal concentration / contamination. (or else where... put it about 4 or 5 jumps away)

Complications could include piracy (must be vital medical supplies... ) , theft at various stops along the way, breakage (Bob's not lookin' well), Megacorp industrial spying/sabotage etc...

Take care

"Good news, everybody! [insane suicidal delivery mission detail here]"

They are lucky, the professor who owns >50% of the company is on his way to the University of Regina to defend his reputation against "false accusations" by a rival, so they are pretty much on their own for the next six months or so.

That said, the professor purchased a cheap scout ship prior to his departure, the PCs only have to pick it up - from atop a vulcano on a planet two jumps away; but they don't know that yet. ;)

A Rancor.
Do a spin on Tribbles.
Convicted Criminal with security guards
Diplomat in fear of assassination
Important Papers - stress the need for speed to deny other cargos. make it seem like important documents but show up at loading time with tons of crates. opening a crate of "important papers" = toilet paper.

I like that!

Or make it like a hard currency transfer (wads and wads of Imperial credits... I just know it). Guards, BDress suits, escort to the 100 Diameter limit... the whole 10 yards.

And guess what? the PC's are the stalking horse... they're actually carrying shredded paper lead weights etc... Lets see whos been leaking the information to the Pirates... Better not open them crates (smile)

A giant Trojan Horse.

Left handed gloves. To correct a former packaging error.

Super fun balls of the future. A crate explodes during a firefight/engineering accident and tiny rubber balls with a much higher elasticity and recoil level akin to flubber scatter around the cargo bay. (I saw one on my desk and triggered the thought)

Campaign buttons, signs, materials for there rival/enemy politician's re-election.

Pizzas. For some mega-sized galactic party.

Delivery grav-trucks for a "mail" organization/the imperium for the irony. Delivering the mail delivery system... ok... maybe not...

variant miss-jump...

instead of 6-36 parsecs (19-118, roughly) light years in random direction, stay at jump point and jump 19-118 years forward... (after virus hits)

invert the grid phase, do a re-missjump (on purpose) to get back and try and warn people of the coming doom and not get locked up as a loon.
