Advancement rolls - How many.

We are currently playing a game of Deus Vult.

What is a good amount of Advancement rolls to be handing out. Im thinking maybe 1 or 2 a session or is that too harsh.

It really depends on how fast you want your characters to advance.
If you are only handing out 1 and 2, people with 13+ charisma get so much more from that stat. Since they will get a 50-100% increase in improvement rolls, if you are handing out 5 or 6, having 13+ charisma is not really that useful.

So I suggest 3-5IRs per game as a midway where you don't give to many rewards for having a good charisma, and don't punish those that have a good charisma too much.

I don't hand them out per session. I usually give , as Mixster suggests, about 3 when the PC's have completed some sort of goal/quest and have the time to contemplate and learn from their experiences. If they were, say in a Dungeon environment, I would probably give out an IR for every 2-3 encounters depending on the challenge, whether they be roleplaying, puzzle solving or straight combat. It's your game though, do what seems fair to you and what you and the players are happy with.

The group I play in have recently finished playing a DV campaign. We have a three hour time limit at our club, with all the general chit-chat and late comers we play for about two and a half hours. In this time our GM awarded three or four Improvement Roles. Personally I thought this a lot, but we always complained it was not enough, you know how players are.
