ACTA Fleet Action

Are there any thoughts along the lines of a "Fleet Action" scale version of ACTA, similar to the old AOG game and miniatures line?

I think ACTA is already pretty close to what Fleet Action was.

Going up the scale to FA could involve really, really huge games.

Shame, it would be nice to see those minis back in production again.

Before the game came out the potential players were asked what scale they wanted, Fleet Action or B5W. A lot of them (like me) said Fleet Action but Mongoose went with the B5W scale. The FA minis were really nice.

I far, far prefer the B5W scale for the most part although a half-way house between FA and B5W for the smaller capital ships would be nice to bridge the gap between the fighters and larger vessels.

Myself I prefer the Fleet Action scale minis. They scale better and you can get more onto your playing space without looking like a parking lot.
At least the fighters are FA scale...

I prefer FA Scale as well. That said, I find ACTA is actually less complex than the old B5:FA game. I think I play larger games using ACTA than I ever did with the old system. If you use FA scale here are some suggestions I've used:

*Reduce ship explosion range to 2-2.5" FA scale tends to clump together more as you tend to use more ships.

*Use CM instead of IN for all measurements in larger games. Allows for more manuever before entering into firing range and 'opens up' the battlefield.

Those are good ideas. I prefer B5W scale, although if I were to invest in another fleet (fourth), it'd probably FA scale. Although the minis lack detail to my eye, they'd be good for a fleet which wasn't my favorite but wanted to use anyway...like Narn...or whatever.

FA is nice but I think most people (myself included) prefer B5Wars scale, epsicially for the larger ships, its just nicer to have a nice chunky detailed omega rather than a tiny little one.

ACTA DOES uses some FA minis though (fighters for example are all FA) and uses some of the old full scale fighters for other purposes (Vree patrol boats for example are acutally the old full scale Tymm models, and White Star Fighters (/spit) are the old FA Whitestars)

I myself DO use some FA minis still, most noteably Tethys and Olympus as I felt they look more 'to scale' with the rest of the fleet (especially the Olympus which is frickin HUGE in full scale (the Tethys isnt bad but I wanted them to be smaller than my Chronos and Olympus and also the FA ones come in packs of 6 ;)

And then they split the fleet lists so I cant use them any more with my crusade list :(. Still I can always use them as part of a third age fleet.

Thanks for the tip about the old AOG website. On reflection, having already got buckets of "full size" ships it would be daft to go into a new scale, but I have ordered a bundle of FA models of the various scout ships.

Now I just need time to paint them all :D

It'd be nice if Mongoose could afford to re-issue the whole line, in correct scale.
Well "correct" is a matter of taste if ever we've seen one :)

It'd certainly be interesting if the larger ships were done in B5W scale and the smaller ships in FA scale (much closer to each other's scales and apparently, totally internally consistent). Of course then the fighters would be too big but if they matched would be itty, bitty little things :) (a 10cm Nova comparing to a 2mm Starfury)

As noted there ARE some minis that actually work better at FA scale when compared to the full size ships :)

Perhaps if they ever decide to release plastic prepaints at some stage, which isn't entirely impossible given the Battlefield Evolution and SST Evolution lines, they'll consider redoing the models and correct the more glaring discrepancies in scale. Some of the current models are needing to be redone anyway (the Omega model is particularly foul and needs a lot of work to even fit together properly). Can't see this happening anytime soon 'tho, new molds are pretty expensive and they've got plenty of new models to release as it is, including the new ACTA v2.0 fleets (Gaim and Pak'Ma'Ra ?) next year which probably include a number of B5W molds they already possess.
