ACTA Crew quality checks

Okay, I know This has been discussed over and over, but how do you perform a crew quality check again? It's been a year and I forget.....

Basically when you are called to make a crew quality check (when performing a special action or damage control for example), you roll 1D6 and add the ships Crew Quality[1] and any relevent fleet bonuses (e.g. Drazi Agression, Vree Telepathy and ISA Rangers).

[1] In most pick-up or one off games Crew Quality is just assumed to be 4. However in campaign games this can differ between 2 and 6.

Good this topic is already opened :D

One more question about CQC :

The rule states that a "6" is always a success on a CQC (obviously unless it's an opposed CQC).
BUT is a "1" an automatic failure ?

(Easy exemple : ISA elite rangers inside a WS wanting to perform damage control. They succeded in "All hands to deck" so now it's time to attempt repairing all the crits :

CQ : 6
Rangers : +1
Self repairing : +1
All hands to deck : +1
--> 9 without throwing.

If you HAVE to throw (because 1 is failure) you might not repair everything ;-)
If you don't have to it's an automatic "I repair all non-vital crits from previous turns"

CQ : 6
Rangers : +1
Self repairing : +1
All hands to deck : +1
--> 9 without throwing.

Why is the crew quality at 6?

A Standard Whitestar would be:
CQ: 4
Rangers: +1
SR : +1
All Hands: +1
---> 7.

As far as i know, a 1 always fails so you would still have to roll anyway, no matter the starting values.

The CQ is 6 because it's a campaign mode.
(sorry I just realized that a part of the post has been deleted).
But I wrote "elite" rangers ;-)

The rule only states the case of "6" that's why I'm asking here for "1" ;-)

Doesn't answer the quesition, but thought I'd point this out. You can't get a +1 for Rangers on top of CQ6. CQ6 is the maximum CQ of a ship, and Rangers gives a +1 to crew quality, so it is capped at 6. The Rangers bonus just means your ships start at a higher CQ than anyone else's.

You can't get a +1 for Rangers on top of CQ6.

Yep thats true.

I would imagine you still have to roll and a 1 fails. Otherwise being able to auto repair all Crits with All Hands would be Cheesy.

Ok for the rangers bonus, so it becomes :

CQ : 6
Self repairing : +1
All hands to deck : +1
--> 8 without throwing.

At least one on a D6 so 9 is the minimum score, and nothing states than 1 is a failure. (book 1 about CQC).

So still wondering how it works (or is supposed to work)

I'm sure this was rulesmastered once before, cos I have a bookmark. But the topic no longer exists... :roll:

Vree could get the cq 6 with bonuses boosting to an effective seven all the time.

Didn't see any rule like that myself, you almost need one to handle unforseen combo's boosting things over the top but right now don't think so.

Waiting for official answer...
