ACTA Adaptations to Other Backgrounds

Mongoose
Is anyone aware of any unofficial adaptations of the ACTA rules to other backgrounds (in a similar evin to the plethora of backgrounds available for Full Thrust)? I'm thinking of doing an Honor Harrington (A Call to Honor?) adaptation, and thought a Star Trek one might be fun too.

there has been atleast 1 star wars , several star trek , ship stats for bsg tns ,bsg tos ships that i created (i also have sw and star trek based off of steve longs spacedock game system, an sfb conversion) and i'm worrking on a bsg tns one at the moment. there was a preview of sorts for a starblazers conversion but i'm not sure what has become of it because i've been away from this board for awhile.

Star Wars is covered as far as Mongoose Towers goes, don't know what the rest of us are supposed to do...

I like the tactics and technology of David Weber's universe, but I have become increasingly fed up with the extremely potent character shields, and found myself agreeing with the people who think Honor is actually her middle name and she was really christened Mary Sue. The universe ithout the people in it would be good.

There's enough detail in the books to get stats out of, certainly, and it's been proposed for ACtA but not seriously done. Saganami Island Tactical Simulator is available, highly complex- I don't mind this in principle, and it seems complex in a good way, the things you have to bear in mind matter to the gameplay, but it is a slow, thinky game.

ACtA would be much better for multiple- ship actions, but it would need a lot of ruling for things like wedges, speed of missiles reducing interception time, the sheer acceleration- and it is acceleration- of the ships. Moving Battlefield, maybe? Assume the action swirls around the slowest ship, it stays immobile and the rest get thrust allocation equal to the difference between?

Trek- never saw more than fragments actually posted. I think they were on somebody's website, never took them down in detail. Good luck sorting out the background, and the contradictions caused by the far more expansive sense of the possible that TOS had over TNG. (Planetary bombardment, warp strafing, surviving doomsday devices- NCC-1701 was twenty times the ship NCC-1701D was.)

I have SITS - and a migraine after reading it :) If I go ahead with an HH adaptation I'll stick to the earlier books and smaller actions, rather than trying to take on thoiusands of LACs and half a million missiles!

Missles cower in fear before the Sueness that is Honor. I started getting annoyed with her about the moment when she was severely wounded and had only limited sword training and then took out a master swordsman.

Honor Harrington: Master tactician, black belt martial artist, skilled swordswoman, better with a pistol than an experienced duelist from the marines, first person to form a true empathic bond with a treecat, commener who has become one of the highest ranking nobles in both Manticore and Grayson....speaking of which add brilliant politician to her skills, and slayer of evil liberals everywhere.

I did a Trek version that several people gave good marks but I need to update it and I never posted it online anywhere because I did not want to interfere with anything Mongoose might have been working on in that vein since at the time there were rumours they might try for the Trek minis license.

i did some select ships from BSG (galactica, pegasis, raptors, vipers mk2 and mk7 and cylon raiders), and Stargate (i forget exactly which ones but i think it was promethios an asguard ship, a goa'uld ha'tak, and an or'i cruiser) a while back

the hardest part in creating a variant ship fleet is fitting the ships into priority levels as there aren't any real guidlines for how powerfull ships in a given PL should be. which if you don't intend the new fleets to be used against existing b-5 fleets isn't that big an issue.

additionally there are some complications regarding shield mechanics (very popular in a lot of SF settings).

On the 'New SW mod' thread, Matt revealed that there is a horrendously unofficial conversion document floating around head office- the rules and stats exist, but we don't know what plan, if any, they have for smuggling it out, because as sure as moving to Alderaan is a bad idea, it would be a violation of WOtC's license to release it. Not good for Mongoose's health that would be.

Some universes, the basic technology is close enough- or undefined enough- to stand a crossover. I've seen absurdly high numbers for BSG tech (Old series, yet), the Constitution-Cultists of ST; TOS, and Andromeda was just...crazy. Forty starkiller strategic weapons, on a hull that needs half a dozen people to run it? Somebody's judgement, in universe, out or both, was way out of whack.
I reckon TNG could probably convert on to the same scale as B5, a realistic estimate for new series Galactica could, Weber's books probably could but the times, distances and speeds would need special handling.
TOS, I'm not so sure. In theory, it ought to be weaker, but the Ent- nil gave and took so much more abuse than Ent-D, they were operating on a different concept of what a starship was supposed to be, and be capable of.
Wars...I only started recently but- I'm a Saxtonite. (simulated sob.)
If the numbers are anywhere near right, it falls firmly into the ranks of the unconvertibles, along with the Lensmen and the Culture.

With Stargate it would be inpossible to set ships into a PL, as ori are seen to have only one ship, earth has two (origional daedelus and the the promethius update), Asgard have about 3 and gou'ould have a few more

So what stuff for scifi can there potentially be mods for?

Star Trek
Star Wars
Battlestar Galactica
Honor Harrington
Stargate
Crest/Banner for the Stars
Tenchi Muyo? I think we have enough Juraian ships for one per level(with Tsunami being an Ancient level ship obviously)
Robotech
Colony Wars
The War Years
40k
That series of books by Weber and White that included Crusade, Insurrection, In Death Ground, and The Shiva Option.

Aliens/Predator? I saw a few ships in the comics but I'm not sure if there are enough to actually have enough priority levels for.

Hi

I played a couple of games using phoenixhawk's Star Trek conversion and it worked well. I made up some counters in the ACTA style or these games and I was thinking i'd share them with anyone who might want them. There's two or three pdfs.
One of them has all the ships and terrain needed to play the battle from the end of "The Jem'hadar" which was one of the scenarios we played out. The rest of the counters are a mixed bag. I should point out that I did not create the artwork used, I just made the counters and so I don't want to take credit for someone else's work. That said, they look spiffy when printed out and laminated :D

If you're interested, send me a PM and i'll email you the counters over the weekend.

Regards

Good to see you haven't given up completely :)

Doesn't WotC lose their license in '09(or was it '11)?

If so, they might be gearing up to snatch themselves a piece of that pie. Which is a shame, because I am working on my own ruleset based on the star wars universe(a 4k year span of star wars, possibly more. From prior to KOTOR-era, to 135 ABY(new comic series is out, long story)). It's actually based around ACTA pretty heavily, but it is a bit more advanced. Actually, a lotta bit more advanced, but it should play rather well.
