ACTA 2e Question about Comms Disruptors and Fighters

I was participating in a discussion on the B5 miniatures forum regarding the Abbai and a statement came up that I would like clarified ..

Weirdly enough it looks like Comms Disruptors can also kill fighters since all that requires is a hit instead of damage...

Is this correct? Does that mean when you hit a fighter you don't have to roll for damage/crits (not that crits would matter against a fighter but a 1 doesn't save the fighter?)

Also, can comm disruptors be stopped by interceptors?

Thanks,

Dave

Yes, page 29 states "Any successful hit that equals or exceeds a flight’s Hull score will automatically destroy it, but the flight may use any Dodge trait it possesses as normal". So any hit will kill a fighter - since Comms Disruptors cause hits, they can kill fightes. The fighter can dodge it though.

I don't see why not, according to the rules as written. Doesn't really make sense though...

It's been said elsewhere that a Comms Disruptor is more like an EM pulse "bolt" rather than an ECM type effect (which is how I thought it worked) which is why it is able to be stopped by active defences.

That might explain why it can kill fighters too, as a weapon designed to disrupt warship electronics might well be powerful enough to completely fry a fighter (and it's pilot !)

If it can be intercepted, why can't it be dodged?

Its an unintentional rules loophole, that some people have tried to explain using technobabble.

Yup. It can be dodged and intercepted. And it does indeed knock out fighters.

And the Abbai players rejoice... :)
