A rather odd starship question.

Lol, as said before, cheers Barnest for the help :)

Ive decided now from mapping the inside interiors out in a more 3d way that there wont be a rooftop porthole but instead have double ones on the side, with the new ones being nearer the tip for the computer room.

Also the airlock's right side is still inline with the front of the wing :)

And about the previous comment, I was just messing, but I dont mind knocking my pride for a render, so please would you help with a render, GJD. Further details are in the thread in my sig. :)

Zero - say please and i might think about it Can you give me a description?

Barnes can do better than a description. I can link you pictures of the stubby little beast :P

OK. I'll have a look.

Cool :) Thanks in advance for any help.

Barnest done alot of the work coming up with the basic model, which looks way better than my flat 2d sketches come up (specifically the awesome "Battleship Yamato" style nosetip  ).

My gf really likes to go indepth (surprisingly for a new rp gamer) with background and a physical representation of the ship we're travelling in will really help when shes picturing on-ship scenes.

Working in the OTU setting has also began to put more background in to mull over such as politics and galactic powers, being between 3I space and Solomani Confederation space helps put a nice comparison of politics in the game which I would never think of pushing before.

First pass, fast and dirty render without textures, bumps or anything, and no idea of scale as such.

Like I say, quick render, so not huge on details.

Rust is right, the central shaft should be thicker. I also figured that some of the fuel was stored in the top half of engineering section. I obviously misremembered it from Starships.

Single engine only because I put a single engine on it. My personal take on drives is that CG is only a field that negates Mass, and you still need a thruster, plasma torch, HEPLaR etc. to actually move the ship, but YTUMV.

Are you going to do any more work on it?

Sure, if you like. won't take long. Aside from the thicker shaft (oo-err!) anything else you'd like to see?

OMG, GJD that render for my ship is pretty damn awesome! :)

Just a few comments; The Double Beam-Laser/Sand-Caster Turret is a little too forward (I think), at a 12 square long body it would be on the 5th from the bottom, pretty close to Engineering, also at the bottom.
And aslong as the shape of the fuel-tanks in Barnest's model fit in those wings, thats awesome.

The only thing missing from Barnest's model on the ship really is the funnels from the two M-Drives (This is where the ship model may change in a more substantial way).
If the ship body is 4 squares high and 5 wide, they would be on the second row and poke out the 2nd and 4th squares of that row, the ship is Thrust 2 with A-class M-Drive.

Ship dimensions quoted from Barnest from "picturing my custom ship" thread;

18 metres long
7.5 metres wide
1.5 metres at the tip, front 3 metres taper to this
6 metres tall (2 decks)
Wings: (I'll centre them between the two decks)
1.5 metres tall.
13.5 metres long at hull
7.5 metres long at outer edge
4.5 metres wide

The below Cargo deck is a little different, again quoting Barnest as my descriptions tend to be long;

Ok cargo deck (the 'belly') is like this:
7.5 metres wide (like main hull)
Up 3 metres from bottom
9 metres long
box on front (on centreline):
3 metres long
4.5 metres wide.

So yeah, if you did a render like the ones you did already with these dimensions added in, that would be awesome :)

So GJD, would you please help me with this render?

Far be it for me to tell the master his craft. ;)

I just like what you have done and would like to see what you would do next. The reason I'm interested in this ship is I'm going to run a game for two of my kids and this is the type of ship willed to them by their great uncle when he died. I see it as a very old ship but well maintained. It's has a long history a few quirks and by the way I think it's going to be haunted.

Where do you think they would mount weapons on this class of ships?

There are supposed to be six hardpoints, so I would hazard a guess that they are mounted round the edge of the tip cone in line with those fuel tanks, covering each angle of the ship.

Those 6 hardpoints are the attachments for the cargo pods, not turret hardpoints.

Need to revise the textures and bump maps on the second ship, but added maneauver drives, a decent trip turret and moved it aft.

^ Wow, on both ships, but me and my gf both say that our ship is awesome and thanks for helping with its design

Just one thing about the ship, the frontal viewports would be blocked by the ship's 3m tall, 1.5m wide bis computer, in theory they could still be there, but the crew would be only using the side ones shown. I dont think you'd need to change that though, really.

I realise you're still finishing the textures on the ships so just wondering what the little poles under the ship were, comms and radar and stuff? I had the plan of them being retractable into the nose tip, but still the ship looks awesome, very impressed :D

Let me whole heatedly agree with that. Putting the outer "shell/doors" on it looks great!

I dont think you'd need to change that though, really.[/quote]Unless the computer must be "upright" why can't you lay it down so it is only 1.5m tall/3m wide? People do it all the time with desktops/towers, laying them on their "end/side" they weren't designed to rest on.

Just a thought.

Wow!

I must say I'm kinda amazed, you took something that I could not really get my mind around and visualize and made it real.

Sorted the textures on the other ship. Removed the viewports for that oh-so-popular solid look and added some grebblies here and there.

Awesome!!! :o

On the matter of the bis comp on the interior, having it on its tall side kinda suited the nose tapering, so style over function!

GJD, Nice to see the fuel processing units on the ship, v.cool  There is an Airlock (3m high, 1.5m wide) on the right side of the ship, but I dont want to worry about that being added, because those bunch of pics of the Stubby-class I created are amazing at this point!

Also the dark middle section you put in totally lines up with some escape pod hatches I decked in that area and the dark bits totally look like theyd retract to reveal the pods so thats a nice cheeky bonus!

Thanks for making this ship design a great reality. At some point I'll place the ship's stats for anyone who wants to use this great merchant ship in their games :)
