A rather odd starship question.

From GURPS Traveller Starships:

Birdsongs are tail-landers, laid out with decks perpendicular
to the main drive axis. They were originally designed for
microgravity. Accessways, particularly the main shaft through
the fuel tankage, are inconvenient if not impossible to use
under full G. Crew stations on the bridge are recumbent; crewmen
lie on their backs, facing forward toward the main view
port. Experienced crews often maintain normal gravity only on
the quarters (#2) deck, and leave the rest of the ship in zero-G.

It is also described as a 'tapered dumbell' with 6 standard cargo modules arranged around the fuel core.

From that I suggest that the ship starts with a cone at the top containing the bridge deck and the crew deck below it. Below the upper cone is a cluster of seven cylinders (6 cargo modules surrounding a fuel core) with a tube/ladder down the center of the fuel core. Below the 'six-pack' of cargo modules is a wide flat engineering section with landing legs.

The overall shape is a bumpy sided cone, 45 feet (13.5 meters) diameter at the base and 81 feet (24 meters) tall. Without the cargo modules attached, the ship would resemble a bumbell with a small weight at the top and a large weight at the bottom.
Hope that helps.

Very cool, I love seeing what other members of the community have done.

Any chance of you hosting a good 'ol fashioned Texas BBQ to celebrate? (j/k!)

So, my apologies, I completely forgot to do this last night. Will do so when I get in from work today.

Texas BBQ?? I'm several thousand miles away from Texas?

Very quick renders:

Loading - showing the central core. I omitted any grapples 'cos I was in a hurry.

LIFTOFF! Tail sitter takes off vertically.

In flight. Conformal cargo bins also available, not just the fugly red tanks.

Looks very good, although I would imagine the central "shaft" a little
more substantial. According to the description in GURPS Traveller Star-
ships, this "shaft" with an accessway in it runs through the fuel tankage
of 30 modules = 30 dtons, which is 30 % of the entire 100 dton ship.
I may well be wrong, but it seems to me that this should result in a
thicker "shaft".

I like it, agree with rusty about the central shaft being a bit thin, but I have no scale on the render to judge how big it is. Maybe support shafts going around the cargo between the cylinders for additional support.

Maybe actually panels that lift up, cargo pods installed, then the panels close forming a solid outer hull like the rest of the ship.

The single engine throws me.. .does it have contra grav to assist lift off/landing?

It is a nice render though.

Like I say, quick render, so not huge on details.

Rust is right, the central shaft should be thicker. I also figured that some of the fuel was stored in the top half of engineering section. I obviously misremembered it from Starships.

Single engine only because I put a single engine on it. My personal take on drives is that CG is only a field that negates Mass, and you still need a thruster, plasma torch, HEPLaR etc. to actually move the ship, but YTUMV.

Zero - say please and i might think about it ;) Can you give me a description?

Barnes can do better than a description. I can link you pictures of the stubby little beast :P

Lol, as said before, cheers Barnest for the help :)

Ive decided now from mapping the inside interiors out in a more 3d way that there wont be a rooftop porthole but instead have double ones on the side, with the new ones being nearer the tip for the computer room.

Also the airlock's right side is still inline with the front of the wing :)

And about the previous comment, I was just messing, but I dont mind knocking my pride for a render, so please would you help with a render, GJD. Further details are in the thread in my sig. :)

OOh nice, someone else using DOGA.. alot of my stuff before I found sketchup is DOGA created.

It does me :) I used to use 3DS Max, but, frankly, I really can't be arsed to spend so much time on it when I can just throw parts together in DOGA. It's not high quality by any means, but works just fine for me. I've got Blender and 3DLux too, but haven't bothered to learn how to use them yet...
