Major Ray “Chet” Nimitz
We finally managed to secure the ship to the asteroid; after only 5 attempts and 3 lost pilots later. I think this will work fine for now until we can find a more suitable rock to call home.
This forced exile is starting to take its toll on some of the pilots but by keeping them busy, I can give them a better sense of purpose in creating our new base. Having them think about home too much might make them do something drastic like leave, or even walk out the airlock naked. With EA on our ass 24-7, we cant sleep soundly until we're out of this system for good..
My scouts picked up the signal of a new fleet heading our way but from their formation, I don't think they realize that we are this close to Earth still. Its a scout fleet and if they pick up on us, we'll be caught with our pants down without a real base. They are about 10 hours out; so we'll start jamming them in about 5 hours and then commit to 'Blackout' until they pass. I've already signaled the freighters and the 4 wings to stay put near IO. I think thats a good as any place to hit them and give the impression that we're farther out than we really are. I think this will also prove my point that their current formations and strategies are impractical and inefficient.
Did they really think they knew better than me? Hell, how stupid and ignorant do you have to be to think that I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a NIMITZ for god sake-we wrote the f..king books on naval and space strategies!
I hope they aren't rolling in their graves because of my actions but change wont happen from the inside of that farm of fools...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I finally have an opponent for B5 and I decided that we'd start with early ships to get his feet wet. My thought was a EA-Raider campaign, using cannon from the D20 book for dates and moving up to right around the Minbari war. Since I hadn't really used fighters much in any of my previous games, I thought I'd go Raider and focus on a more fighter driven force.
We're playing in the Sol system and we rolled a Battle level scenario near IO, Space Sup. (with a Space station). I decided to just use 1 point since I knew we'd be going for a few hours and didn't want it to too long of an all-nighter.
Raiders:
Whore of Earth - freighter
Jupitor's Bastard - freighter
4 wings of Double V's - Rott, Crypt, Defile, Acid
2 wings of Delta V's - Eradicator and Bull
Ea:
3 Oracles - Cant remember the names-
2 Tethys
1 Wing of Tigerfuries
(will put the pics up when i get them off the cam)
------------------------
Round 1 - EA Init.
EA ran a 2 line formation; Tethys in one, the Oracles in the 2nd with the fighters spread out.
Raiders ran a 2 line also with Whore and Bastard on the flanks & Deltas stretching between. The Doubles were flying behind the Deltas.
His plan, get into range and pick me off with 'his' gun range.
My plan, tie up the interceptors with the Deltas/Freighters and then swarm with the Doubles.
So, I full burned (APtE) everything forward and he pulled all but one Oracle forward. Jupitor's Bastard was in range and took 1/1 from a missile blast. Other than that, end of round 1.
Round 2 - Raider Init.
Pretty much the same; closing and no real damage. My fighters pushing forward just enough to stay out of range but ready to engage the next round.
Round 3 - Raider Init.
Bastard CBD's and Whore failed the CF
The Oracles couldnt get past the CBD and the first loss was a Tethy on the right flank by Delta fire and Double Missiles. On the left, 1 Oracle was feeling the wrath of missiles from another wing of Doubles. He managed to take 5 fighters that round and at this point, its slowly getting busy in the center of the table.
Round 4 - EA Init.
He pushed his Oracles through the swarms and the freighters. He didn't change direction so I turned both freighters inward to bring up the Aft guns. It's really a mess now in the center with fighters all around the 2 Oracles and no real backup from the Tigers. Basically, I brought the Deltas in to 2 inches and the Doubles into 4 inches to hammer at one of the Oracles. His AF rolls were horrible and between my 3 Deltas and 8 Doubles, it didn't stand a chance. He managed to drop 3 of my fighters but also lost 2 Tigers.
Round 5 (? on init)
We decided this would be the final round since its already been a few hours and wanted to wrap it up. Basically another round 4 with another loss of an Oracle, this time to the aft guns of Jupitor's Bastard. I lost another 5 fighters.
Final:
Raiders down 13 fighters (J.B took -4/4 the whole round) - 52 VPs
EA down 2 fighters, 2 Oracles and 1 Tethy - 13 VPs
(I think this is correct?)
I want it noted that, being newbs, a lot of errors occurred. First off, he completely forgot about his stealth. I was continually questioning myself on fighter movement (which I finally understand now after rereading the book again this morning). A lot of wasted time referring back to the book and so on. So, in short, another learning lesson.
**Questions**
I still have a few questions and I know you guys will chime in and help me.
SA and fighters - Didn't see anything about it in the book (but its probably on the forum somewhere)-can they do them?
When starting the campaign, which is considered 'Our' home Strategic Target? Have ideas but not quite sure how to do it.
When using RR, what is considered 'a' ship purchase for a Patrol level for say a Tethy ? It says fighter wings meaning multiple but doesn't really specify for my example.
thanks for the help
