5 War Centauri fleet for review

I am doing a campaign but I need to know what centauri are all about and so far this is the fleet I have made so far for my Centauri this is using with what I got but I got another centurian, a darkner, 15 maximus frigates extra and 2 kuati.

war 1: octurian
war 2: Primus, Tetrius
war 3: Prefect & Vorchat x 2, Prefect & Vorchat x 2
War 4: Prefect & Vorchat x 2, Dargan & Darkner x 2
war 5: Balvarix, Alterian & Darkner & Corvan x 2

I was planning on putting Breaching pods on my vorchats for them to sail by and drop off breaching pods on enemy vessls for boarding actions.

The Dargan leads the Vorchats on flanking while the Primus, Tetrius, Prefects and Octurian hold the line and the Balvarix just dumps fighters with the darkners providing fire support and corvans scouting

Myself probably Stay with
1 Octurion
1 Primus/Tertius, 1 Magnus/Sulust/Prefect 3 Corvans
1 Primus/Tertius, 1 Magnus/Sulust/Prefect 1Corvans, 2 rutarian wings( no real reason just something different)
1 Primus/Tertius 2 Magnus/Sulust/ Prefects
1 Balavarix, 2 Magnus/Sulust/ Prefects

My Fleet would be from the above ( Hate the Prefect & Tertius )
1 Octurion
1 Balvarian
3 Primus
4 Sulust
4 Corvan
2 Rutarian replacement wings

I generally stay away from the skirmish ships, hard to take when you have the Corvan & awesome raid ships. Love the Dargan model but find it's not quite good enough, if it had interceptors i'd take all the time, just hard to take when you can have the Sulust or Magnus ( my fav's).
Am interested in the Vorchat, Breaching pod plan sounds good in theory. Would like to hear how well it works.

I love the Maximus as they are so hardy - much more than the Vorchans though the scout varient is useful, agre about the Dargan - but people can think it is more important cos the model is way ttoo big and target it.

the Elutrain bombardment is nice rather than the Alterian, the +2 Command from the Carrier isn't bad and its got OK guns.............

I second that!

I can't see a reason not to include a few Maximus' in any Centauri fleet. Hull 6 with 10 twin linked shots, at skirmish no less! Having 15 available to use I personally would sub in atleast 2 if not 4 for some Darkners & Vorchats.

At Skirmish and patrol...

The Maximus is indeed an excellent Skirmish ship for the Centauri (and has an interceptor too!) but I wouldn't dismiss the Darkner, especially not when backed up with a Maximus for those all important "maneoveur to shield" special orders!

It's the shame the Haven patrol boat and Kutai generally perform poorly as they are rather spiffy looking models...Vorchans I agree prove to be not quite good enough despite using in numbers or even its versatility (3 variants).

As for Raid level - I also quite like the standard Altarian for it's relatively (for Centauri) strong rear arc weaponry and the Dargan for it's maneoverability (+ I love the look of the model).

As for the Balvarix - I can understand you taking it, it's got a good command bonus and fleet carrier is pretty good too but I'm not convinced its worth while for the Centuari fighters to concentrate on anything but protecting their own vessels from enemy fighters (esp. Nials and WS Fighters)...against Narn of course you'll need to be very careful with fighters - that marsupial beast is just waiting for you to group together to fire those dreaded e-"fighters are fubared"-mines!

Have you thought about an Adira? Octurion probably more than sufficies as the Command ship of the fleet but it is cool to have an Armageddon class ship on your side too!

I am going up against a Narn bat Squad, 2 Crusade Era Earth Fleets, 1 Middle Age Earth Fleet, Pak'ma ra, another Narn Bat Squad, Centauri Beam team, 2 Combined League Players, Dilgar, and that should be it.

I was thinking of the Adira but I dont have the model

One of the War 3 fleets I am thinking of running with is

War 1: Primus, Tetrius
War 2: 6 Vorchats
War 3: Dargan and 4 Maximus Frigates

how are you breaking down your points? cos i cant see how you are doing it, i mean these 2 war points:

war 3: Prefect & Vorchat x 2, Prefect & Vorchat x 2
War 4: Prefect & Vorchat x 2, Dargan & Darkner x 2

thats 2 raid and 4 skirmish when a war point can only be 2 raid 2 skirmish, or 3 raid etc.
you cannot break a war point down to battle points then break those 2 points down seperately, best you could do is 1 battle, 1 raid and 2 skirmish.

Good spot! When re-splitting fleet allocation points you can't split ALL of the points down again. In this case you could also do this:

Step 1: 1 WAR POINT = 3 RAID POINTS

That was a straight split now you can re-split one raid points:

Step 2_1: 3 RAID POINT = 1 RAID POINT + 2 RAID POINTS = 2 RAID POINTS + 2 SKIRMISH (i.e. 2 Prefects + 2 Vorchans)

OR splitting 2 Raid points into 4 Skirmish (note at least 1 Raid point must remain unspilt).

Step 2_2: 3 RAID POINT = 1 RAID POINT + 2 RAID POINTS = 1 RAID POINTS + 4 SKIRMISH (i.e. 1 Prefects + 4 Vorchans)

Or you can split as Katadder suggests.

You can't split 'em all though.. :( Tried to make that clear but may be a bit confusing...sorry about that. To get a full list of all legal breakdowns for points, checkout the stickied thread (Armageddon breakdowns) on this forum.

From the pont of view of someone who is regularly on the receiveing end of the Centauri... :)

Why use a Primus if you can use a Tertius, admittedly the Primus gets one more fighter and interceptor, but I think the Tertius secondaries more than make up for that.
An Octurian, if you have one, is an excellent choice.
Lots of Corvans, without being a scout they are a superb Patrol level choice!
Sullusts are good offensively, but too well armed for their own good, like Earth Hyperions they will attract a lot of firepower, and given they are only hull 5 will likely get beamed to death.

Magnus are good ships, and have rear arc weapons, no something to be ignored with Centauri, and of course there are the Maximus as others have pointed out.

Not sure if a carrier is worth it though.

Just my 2 pennorth (Or 3.95 Cents)

Tertius has no fighters but still makes up for in secondary weapons (Too much in my mind)
I love the Sulust, it's such a nice model, far tougher than a hyperion, 35 hits makes it tough.
I only use the Maximus to Shield my Primus.
Magnus is awesome, better model than a prefect ( i hate the Centurion model never take it)
If The Dargan had interceptors even int 1 i'd take it but 28 hits without just says take a Sulust or Magnus to me. The Centauri are a funny people when comes to ship buliding, The Dargan one the more modern ships doesn't get interceptors when most of the new ships do. damn designers drinking too much.
The Balvarix is a reason ship, has enough Matter Cannon to make it useful. When it comes down to it , use to shield the Oct if you can. It's a shield that lasts.

Hash is that right...

I was lead to believe that it wasn't you had to leave one point unspent but rather that you could only ever break one point further down. In the case here he would have to do something like this...

1 war octurian
1 war Primus, Prefect, Vorchat x2
1 war Tertius, Prefect, Vorchat x2
1 war Balvarix, Prefect, Vorchat x2
1 war Dargan, Alterian, Darkner, Corvan x2

He would lose two skirmish choices. But I could be wrong about this...I still only borrow Arm. haven't gotten around to buying the book yet, too many models I want more.
