Cosmic Mongoose
Hello,
Something I cooked up in sketchup.

Enjoy!

Hey, Man ... now we like that ... alot. Have you tried any others? I guess multi-deck ships would be a bit of a nightmare ...

Very nice!

Because of Middenface's excellent work, I recently downloaded sketchup. I haven't had much time to look at it. Is there an easy way to lay down a grid to use it for making combat maps?

Thanks, check out the S-Class in my other post.. though its not quite as good as the boat. I built the boat 2d first then both 3d versions at the same time.
I fancy the Far Trader or something like that next.

Thanks again, mind you I should have upped the segments on the circles to make it look smoother.
Could go mad with this and add crew, cargo, landing gear then build the Serpent Cutter so its got something to dock with,... :D

Wow, that is excellent. I wish all deckplans in the books could be rendered like that.

Cheers.!
Try using the guide lines, create them at 1.5m intervals, you can render image and you can see this 1.5m grid or draw it in. Other option is to import a grid from another proggy...
Look at my S-Class elsewhere if that helps.

Somebody say grid?...

BTW the boat has transparant windows, and the pilot/co seats are pretty right where they should be.. oh an a loo (sorry WC, toilet, fresher, bog) :)

It's me again.

I'm trying to learn how to use SketchUp. I've worked through some of the basic tutorial videos but not enough to understand how you made these great models. Would it be too much to ask for a little tutorial ... some of the tricks you've use? Have you created some objects (components ... I'm not sure what to call them) that you use repeatedly such as chairs? Anything that you'd be willing to share to make it easier to learn how to do this would be great!

I understand if the tutorial is too much to ask for but thought that it wouldn't hurt to ask.

There seems to be an extra bit of wall by the fresher....

Nice, remember to break it up into components!

Oof! Well spotted, I'll amend that - I am building the cutter next. So I can fix it for that. Could be interesting to see this dock into the cutter.
I will at some point get this exported so I can use a better render engine.

Aye, the 3d seats are components and the iris doors, mind you I had to do the bridge door seperate - you can see it but the bridge is slightly higher the the rest of the ship. Most of it is grouped instead of components. The 2d map is all components (except the doors, engine etc)

Thanks for the compliments folks much appreciated!
