I ask because I do sometimes want to see a background expand and move on. In the case of 2300 I would like to see it again if it were not 100% a redo with a different rule system.

To be blunt: Hunter's personal life has interfered with applying the collected errata and addenda to the layout files.
The PDF was released early specifically to be updated with stuff that escaped playtest, and than then Hunter's personal life seems to have exploded. Then his computer died.
When hunter gets it together, he will update the PDF and set up for POD service.

Thats quite simple, Marc/FFE owns 2300AD Hunter/QLI own the 2320AD variantion of that setting.
So if you wanted to make a "2301AD" version you go to Marc (if he decided to axe QLI's current license) and then make it BUT if you wanted to continue with 2320AD then you would have to buy it off Hunter/QLI and also get a license form Marc/FFE.
A bit complex I know but thats how it is.
A MongTrav version could be done by either one or both of these ways, the real question is would they want to ?

All the 2300AD (and AFAIK Traveller: 2300) books are available for purchase on PDF. Can't recall if there was a CD made, I know it was in the works.gloomhound said:

If Mongoose does anything 23xx, please consider hiring Colin and some of the others (such as the artists) who put a good deal of effort into 2320AD.
* I say this after Heliograph's enthused reprinting of Space 1889 went nowhere with gamers in general

Personally I would like to see a write-out of the twilight war. Just have the setting end up the same staring point.
2300AD was a very well thought out game setting. And even with the truly "alien" aliens it was very playable due to it's in game world view of know competing nation states. It just seemed more "real". If it was ever to be made I would buy 5 copies and post a picture of myself with them.

Twilight and it's repercussions are essential to 2300AD. Perhaps Twilight could instead be a war in 2036 triggered by the impact of the Apophis asteroid. (Look it up, the possibility is quite real.) This would explain why so the rebuilt nations returned to space so quickly, and why space exploration and the development of space technology has consumed so much of the technical advancements in the setting.

Perhaps Russia attempted a diversionary maneuver, which, resulting in Apophis striking somewhere in central China. China goes to war with Russia, accusing them of altering the asteroid's orbit deliberately. The nukes fly, and other nations get drawn in. At something like 390 m across, Apophis would strike with about 880 Megatons.

An asteroid strike would give the a hell of a good reason to get humanity off planet. The not putting all of ones eggs in one basket thing.
