I'm surprised and disappointed that Sprange has not condescended to render an explanation. He cannot hear our questions over the klinking of his shekels.
Hi all!
It's been a very long time since I was last here, but I wanted to drop in and ask if there has been any progress made in releasing the LW books in paperback at all?
A few years ago I bought the HB "collectors edition" of FftD but was very dismayed at the exceedingly tight binding and...
I was not happy with the mass combat stuff produced by MGP, so I turned instead to the much, much better d20 Cry Havoc (Malhavoc Press). For crunchier rules I turned to WRG's 3000 BC to 1485 AD (6th ed.) wargaming rules which work terrific for REH's quasi-historical Thurian Age. 8)
The game should be totally overhauled to suit a simpler ruleset to ensure a wider target demographic. The d20 system is far too much accounting and too light on role-playing.
* A variety of people online are rewriting Classic Traveller for Fantasy/S&S use. This might work, with liberal...
There are some mechanics in 1E D&D that I have never used, nor known anyone else to employ, as weapon speed and armour class adjustments to attacks (PHB, p. 38 ). I have always regarded them as somewhat peripheral and optional. YMMV.
(Emboldening mine.)
Spot on all the way. 8)
The abandonment of Conan 1E is what was the final straw for me. D20 became too wearisome for me, and that's why I went back to 1E AD&D, OD&D and Basic. I needed to get back to 'the Roots' of the hobby to clear my head and realign my gaming compass, if...
I wrote the "Saami" article. If a ref/player doesn't like something, he is free to change it. Simple. That's the most important rule in any roleplaying game. You could impose a -2 pen to any other ability score you choose, if you think it's necessary.
A good RPG player should say 'I want to...
Flash Gordon (Alex Raymond strip and Buster Crabbe serial)
Buck Rogers (the original strip, not the 1970's TV show; the serial, also w/ Buster Crabbe)
ERB's Barsoom (Mars)
REH's Conan
Lankhmar (Fafhrd & the Grey Mouser)
Gangster-era America (1920's-1940's).
Greetings!
The Conan threads have tons of great information on the game, and, just to be on the safe side if you have time, start squirrelling away whatever may look valuable. I'd start by doing searches for Vincent Darlage's posts, and any fan-made character write-ups or sorcery creations.
I saw this coming over the horizon some time ago, so no big surprise there.
It was THE best fantasy/sword-n-sorcery use of the d20 system I've ever seen, and it couldn't last forever.
There will be other rules, other tables to sit at, other dice to roll. Conan didn't weep, so I won't.
Well...
I've been published with MGP before, but it's been a few years. I don't know if their submission guidelines have changed since then. I just hope they don't use triple-brackets any more. Yikes! :)
