    WOTC is angry!

The veneer of 4e has worn off for me as well. In the end it seems that the system only rewards the monster-bashing playstyle. Conan D20 and it's brethren have a healthy future ahead I think. My dislike of the system aside, I think WOTC had to do something about the PDF piracy. It's now at...

    SOme ideas for non-Lengedary Abilities.

I agree with you wholeheartedly but with the caveat the system should provide an elegant way to simulate these mundane tactics beyond simple combinations of move and attack backed up by a narrative.

    Which is your Favourite Edition of RuneQuest . . . . . .

No the only meaningful comparison is based on which is my favourite edition. The people who have an axe to grind about the MRQ system would like the poll to reflect something else. As I stated in my original post - I prefer RQ3 over MRQ (answering Your version of the poll) but will likely...

    Which is your Favourite Edition of RuneQuest . . . . . .

Thanks but, "Simple, which Edition of RuneQuest do you prefer!"

    Which is your Favourite Edition of RuneQuest . . . . . .

Ok I voted 3rd Edition AH (some of you are shuddering I'm sure - I even liked the artwork! :o ) But that will change I'm sure once I've gotten a hold of the other sourcebooks and a great setting.

    A very radical departure

lol! good point. The name is trying to evoke the elder days of d&d (and from your reaction I'd say it does so successfully!) It essentially takes the 3.5 mechanics and backwards applies them to D&D Basic edition. So once again Elf, Dwarf and Halfling are classes, for example, but AC goes up.

    MRQ PDF Now Available!

Say, anyone think we can convince Matt to release the PDF Companion early now that the physical copy is delayed? :D

    Idea to replace halving mechanic

Totally agree - uh with both of you :D ; enough of this nonsense - if you're 100% better than someone/thing - you're 100% better than someone/thing and that's that. Halve this.

    Statisticals. What is 'Average'.

That works but it throws out the idea that there is any skill involved in using your Characteristics; essentially the reverse of the problem of relying on Athletics skill for STR based contests. This is why I suggested the more complex system above. Begin with raw athletics, apply modifiers...

Morbid Curiosity: Question for the Grognards

Amen. Some of the griping gets out of hand for sure, but we are also trying to find mutually agreeable solutions - and even opportunities to expand on the game. I would guess that the OP is not a wargamer if he's never had mathematical issues in his games. My group is rabid about probability...

    Statisticals. What is 'Average'.

I want the pie. So I'd like to keep the baby lose the bathwater. I see Athletics, Resilience and the other skill as being the 'skill' side of characteristics. Athletics for instance representing: -How well you've learned to use what God gave you. So a highly trained athlete or soldier might...

    Precise Parries?

I like what you've got so far. I'd classify 'Beat' as an attack option. How 'bout allowing the attacker to take a 30% penalty (flurry is 20% and all actions [too high a penalty imo]) and immediately attack. I suggest this option to avoid having an action/result/consequence that crosses the...

    vote MRQ GOOD or BAD

YES All I think is missing at the moment is a flavourful setting to provide context to character creation.

MRQ Combat - 'By the book' or 'According to Mr. Sprange'

I'm going with the rulebook initially - I don't want to mess with the formula until I've tried it out a few times. After that if there is a problem, whatever system I go with will: Have players elect to defend or not before knowing the results of the attack. Not transform failed attacks into...
