Jump drive size reduction due to tech increase

Yeah, CT initially had a rule that you always used the full fuel regardless of the length of the jump, but they changed that pretty quickly. The version of Jump Governor I'm referring to is used in T5. I'd have to look back to see if it's mentioned in other editions.

Jump drive size reduction due to tech increase

I don't think this is a thing in MgT2e, but in other editions the prototype jump drives didn't have Jump Regulators. So a J2 drive didn't jump 1 OR 2. They Jumped 2. Not 0. Not 1. Just 2. Every time. So that could be a fun thing to put on a TL 10 J2 as a disadvantage

Additional 'Pirates of Drinax' Related Publications? Worth It?

There is nothing especially egregiously hard about running Pirates of Drinax. The advice to not start that as your first foray into Traveller is not about anything specific to PoD. It's generally sound advice about long campaigns for any game system. It's just generally not a great idea to...

    Robot salaries and accommodation

Oh, you can certainly pass laws that prevent manufactured things (or living things) from having rights. That's not difficult. Whether they are robots, clones, uplifted animals, or just people you don't like, there's nothing requiring you to give them rights. I think the point of Bladerunner...

    Robot salaries and accommodation

Yeah, but do you have any way of knowing if the benchmarks are actually valid or just set to get the result that you want? IIRC, real people fail the Voigt-Kampf android detection test in Blade Runner. The Quarians didn't realize they'd made sentient robots. Sure, we can assume that the...

    Robot salaries and accommodation

Yeah, but we have game mechanics that say that in black and white. Real world people aren't going to have that. It's not different than the argument over whether Chirpers are fully sentient or not. We know they are because the game rules say so. But the people actually living with them think...

    Weapon Damage Output Balance?

I think that using mechanics to discourage players from doing dopey things is not really very useful or fun. If just saying "hey, dressing like a riot cop to walk down the streets is unpleasant and gets bad reactions" doesn't do it, you aren't going to have buy in on the mechanics anyway.

    2300AD: The Problem with Manchu

Aww, come on, Bryn wouldn't have nearly as much of anything to say if you rule out complaining about Colin being a blasphemer. It's at least 50% of his output. It's almost, but not quite, to the point of outweighing the actually useful knowledge he has. But I'd rather still have the actual...

    Weapon Damage Output Balance?

I don't like called shot systems. I feel like Traveller's combat is suitably dangerous as it is. If your table want to play a game where snipers are one-shotting your players on the regular, that's fine. But armor values already include factors for not covering certain areas. IMHO, you would...

    Weapon Damage Output Balance?

That's fine. That's just leaving it up to the characters to do what's necessary based on the information provided. If they can afford combat armor and get away with wearing in the current circumstances, they'll either dominate less well equipped people or be able to survive the military grade...

    Weapon Damage Output Balance?

The rules have the expected outcome: If you are in paramilitary or military grade armor, civilian weapons are not going to do much. Conversely, if you aren't in high end armor, military weapons are going to end your career quickly. I tend to think that is as much "balance" as necessary, given...

    Weapon Damage Output Balance?

I just assume that the PCs can have access to a level of armored clothing that passes for civilian clothing, unless there is a reason why they can't. Are you wearing: Nude, bathing suit, PJs, undies, or the like: Armor 0 Light casual clothes (Shorts and/or or short sleeved shirts): Armor: 3...

    Weapon Damage Output Balance?

A couple points: No one at any point in this thread said that wearing cloth armor was not something characters should do. The comment about excessive armor was about guys looking like a swat team with cloth armor + armor trenchcoat + riot shield. More importantly, it was about consciously...

    Traveller Release Schedule 2026

Black Globes, yes. The other things, no. Anyway, yes, the setting at the table is no more than suggestions. But we aren't talking about the setting in play. We are talking about the setting as published.

    Traveller Release Schedule 2026

The problem is that most of those "Sacred Cows" ARE from Charted Space from what I've seen, whether or not they are admitted as such. Marc's "sacred cows" in his general game advice were just humanocentric space and no ftl comms, from what I recall.
