    Traveller 5E

So excited!!!! Another set of rules, lore, and a bunch more stuff to further divide the fan base! I understand the marketing advantage of taking it to 5E to broaden the audience, but I do not see the 3I being that draw. - unless it is something completely different - and then it...

    State of the Mongoose 2025

Just about all of the above could apply to Traveller as well - except for the movies of course - especially when reading these forums. Not an attack Actionman, and I do not disagree with you, just a observation. This is not in reply to Actionman's observations. That happened to come just...

Confused about how Gunner skills interact with weapon mounts

And to add just a little more ... you have the Norden Bombsight in the B17s where the bombardier took control of the aircraft, through the bombsight to hit (miss?) the target. Gunnery or piloting? I would call gunnery here but would there be the -2DM in the pilot task if the pilot was too far...

Confused about how Gunner skills interact with weapon mounts

Agreed ... and why I see that as piloting (the craft) and not gunnery (the turret). If it's fixed forward, it takes that "turret" part out of the equation. Now ... the question of that being normal or within the pilot training, RAW say they are still different.

Confused about how Gunner skills interact with weapon mounts

Sorry ... I must have removed some of the additional explanation there in my edits. If you plop an F15 pilot into an F18 and ask him to land on a carrier, I doubt they are going to be able to do that even though they are both using the piloting skills - they need that training and it is...

Confused about how Gunner skills interact with weapon mounts

Fire Control takes away the penalty to the pilot which almost all fighters have. Irrelevant. The pilot needs to move the plane to make the cannon hit, the cannon is not moved independently from the airframe. We can argue over 21st Century semantics applied to XX century technology another...

Confused about how Gunner skills interact with weapon mounts

If you need to move the craft to put the pipper on the target, that is piloting. If you need to move the gun or the platform the gun is on, then it's gunnery. Would you have your gunner perform a planetary landing just because the only thing they need to do is put the pipper on the spot...

Confused about how Gunner skills interact with weapon mounts

Of course not ... because they don't have the combat piloting training to use it effectively. Just because I can drive a car does not mean I can compete in a F1 race effectively either.

Confused about how Gunner skills interact with weapon mounts

That would be the piloting skill. The gun in the fighter is fixed forward. The HUD piper is showing where the rounds would land if fired at that moment. So in the case of the modern jet fighters it's the piloting skill. Now a gunner in a B17 or B29 - that would be the gunnery skill. If the...

Not to mention the Airstrike supplement ... both still get regular play at my table (along with Flight Leader from AH) :)

    Tracking ships

It says it predicts the star system(s) they may have jumped to. Using your example of the feared secret base reveal - why would it predict jumping into nothing and not one of the star systems --- just like the rule, as written, states? Perhaps you should read the rule closer "and don't try and...

    Tracking ships

You are assuming that it would not return all of the potential star systems in that hex as possible destinations. IMHO, you are giving the technology much more accuracy than intended - but your table, your rules.
