Plausible puzzles for a Traveller campaign?

Another idea would be an acoustic lock kind of puzzle. Kind of like Simon, in that the characters have to identify and sound the right sequence of notes. Unhackable because the lock isn't electronic - it's mechanical, with the tumblers being set to specific frequencies. The first to the first...

Favourite (possibly unrealistic) setting to convert?

Not really Sci-Fi, but I think Traveller could do them well: Melissa Scott's Roads of Heaven series. Doyle and MacDonald's Mageworld series.

    Women of the Traveller Universe

If she's got subdermal armour, I dare say she doesn't much worry about road rash. Really, 'realistic' and 'practical' have different definitions once technology enters into the picture. A high collar in our world is impractical. But if it's held in place with static fields - and can extend...

    Starting Age

WRT to exiting terms due to failed survival rolls, I see no reason to assume that the character 'recovered' on a four year cycle. Roll a d4 if you like, to determine when the character was available again, and continue Char Gen from there. Added to a more random starting point, you'll get a...

Looking for Players in Alameda / East Bay CA

Alameda is definitely doable for me, on a biweekly basis. Used to game out there a number of years back.

    House Rules

I've come up with one house rule, at Character Creation. Players roll an extra 2d6. They can take points from that roll to either increase stats (Maximum increase of 2 in any one stat, no more than two stats affected.) and/or as 'Luck' during character creation, allowing them to make rolls...

Looking for Players in Alameda / East Bay CA

I could easily do bi-weekly. Weekly depends on where it is. I'm situated in Martinez.

Voluntarily Changing Careers in Char Gen

Yep. All you have to concern yourself is whether or not the current career requires the character remain (a natural 12). Otherwise, it's just that easy.

Core rule book : Ship Shares p36

Statistically unusual to get fewer than 10 shares, maybe. But it hsa happened, I've seen it. I will grant, one of the groups was primarily Army and Marine. But the others weren't. The point I was trying to make wasn't that four terms was the end, just that - as I've stated - getting beyond...

Core rule book : Ship Shares p36

Three or four games, five to six players each, plus approximately eight to ten attempts on my own. 30-odd characters. Not a large sample, but statistically acceptable. As I recall, in all of those, I saw one character survive more than four terms, either due to failed survival rolls or...

Core rule book : Ship Shares p36

I didn't say impossible - I said 'nearly impossible'. I know I've never been able to manage it. I haven't been able to manage four terms in a single career, due to the luck of the dice. As for rolling ship shares twice - again, I'm not doubting that it's possible, I've just never seen it -...

Core rule book : Ship Shares p36

Sorry, I still can't see it - unless your characters average 7 terms (which, in itself, I've seen to be nearly impossible to get in one career) - or you're just having a lot more luck in your die rolls than I've seen. I don't doubt you - but my own experience has been quite different, and based...

Core rule book : Ship Shares p36

I have to say, I've created something like 6 or 8 characters personally, and seen characters created for three games, and I have yet to see any group get enough ship's shares that they could buy a new ship outright, even with shares at 10% of the ship's value. And even a used ship would have to...

Traveller in the San Francisco Bay

I like the idea, depending. I don't have ready (or willing) access to the South Bay, for one, and will only BART into Oakland or SF. (Oakland just because I don't care for largish cities, SF because I avoid bridges whenever I can.)

    average number of skills gained

It's that 'possibly' that kills you. Yes, you've got a chance of getting an additional skill due to advancement, but in my creations, I've generally advanced less than a third of the time. Same with Events - you may have a chance, but it's not much of one.
