Reactions to the State of Mongoose addresss.

Hey, sorry if the fact that I like to play the games but don't like painting somehow means I'm not involved in the hobby. The fact is that battlefield Evolution was marketed from the very beginning as "fast and tactical play with pre-painted figures in every box". So you'll excuse me if I'm of...

Reactions to the State of Mongoose addresss.

Unfortunately for me, no pre-paints means no more Battlefield Evolution for me. I don't enjoy the painting side of the hobby at all, and even if I did a nerve condition in my hand pretty much precludes me ever painting something up to even BF:Evo's standard. I guess I should be thankful that...

    Character Generation Tests

Mathematically impossible perhaps, but the fact is that even after paying for all those anagathics the character still had plenty of cash and no characteristic reduction at all. The character was never never had to worry about any ill effects from the process at all. This is in contrast to...

    Character Generation Tests

Here's a rather hideous abuse of the anagathic/ageing rules that was posted over on RPG.Net. It's not mine, but I'm posing it here because it seems to show the potential problems with them as they stand right now. Robert Blackstar apparent age: 18, chronological age: 138 1.75m tall, 60kg...

3 rolls per carreer. By switching carreers it's possible to really rack up the cash. Some of the careers also have Cash Table results that are significantly higher than the Army. If your character had been a Scout he could have made sunstantially more. Nobility even more. Looking at your 8...

    Announcing: The Open Playtest!

There's a few posts in the Playtest thread on RPG.Net that pointed out a potential problem with the ageing/anagathics system currently in place. With the cost only being 1d6x2000 per term, not having to give up any benefits, and not having to make rolls to obtain drugs, it seems far to easy to...

Not necessarily. The effect die is modified by the same modifiers as the dice roll (minus charactereistic modifiers) with a minimum of one and a max of 6. So if you have a difficult task with skill 0 and no other modifiers you need a 12 to succeed at the task. Say you roll 6,6 and succeed...

"Generic" Aliens vs. "Generic" Fantasy C

Well I'm not adverse to the aliens being in the core book, but I'd really prefer that they be detailed in other products. I just don't find the brief method mentioned in the playtest document satisfying. I'd much rather that each race be given a more prominent spotlight with write-ups for the...

You actually don't have to have minis and floorplans. My buddy and I just played around with a range grid ala Classic Traveller and it worked just fine. We used the dice to mark initiative, but my buddy suggested just having a track on the character sheet labeled 1 to 6 and moving a marker on...

He's a writing system used in pharaonic Egypt? Yes, I know you meant Heretic, but it was just such a cool typo.

    This looks promising game

That superior officer was part of a faction of the Marines that was backing some pretty hardcore policies behind the scenes. Perhaps some extreme "pacification" operations against a world on the frontier. He was grooming your character to be part of that conspiracy, but when you found out you...

Well you learn something new every day. I always assumed the 4mm, 4 gram needles in Traveller gauss rifles would have little recoil. However plugging them in and assuming 1,500 meters/second it does indeed seem that recoil would equal that of a standard weapon. Interesting stuff.

    Announcing: The Open Playtest!

No. Gauss Rifles use a electromagnetic field to propel the round down the barrell. The process does not require compressed gas and the projectiles flight down the barrell is frictionless. So recoild would definitely be minimal to non-existent, at leat for single shot operation. I suppose a...
