    Fantasy Traveller

True, maybe armor was a bad example. The other examples of egotism leading to our traditional MU view might not be something a player would want for his PC, and I was thinking enforcing it might require some pushes by the ref. Maybe not (depends on the group - most people I play with would...

    Fantasy Traveller

Hey, that's a good supplement. I like the emphasis on egotism in magicians to explain "typical" behaviors. (I think refs would still need some serious consequences for players that flout it ("I don't care what all the other magicians do - my magician will wear a full suit of plate armor and...

    A "living" setting ...

Consider what Mongoose could do with the interweb and making their own TNS entries - either 1105- or 1086-based... wouldn't have to wait months to get TNS updates like the old days. But then again, waiting weeks/months for updates would be more "realistic" to the Traveller OTU setting... :)

Let's just call it "Traveller", shall we?

That does sound cool! Hmmm... (googles...) Journey's Escape album.... Skorpion's Blackout (former Zhodani prisoner?)... ZZTop... Buggles (Age of Plastic).... The Kings (Amazon Beach) .... The Police... Vangelis (Hypothesis) ... but man there were some ugly ones too. See also...

Let's just call it "Traveller", shall we?

I'll second this. Now, being an engineer and therefore slightly 'picky' about terminology (gee, imagine that!), I will probably prefer to use "Mongoose Traveller", just to be clear, when it gets down to rules or source materials. But just "Traveller" is fine when talking about the game (or...

Let's just call it "Traveller", shall we?

But using negative portrayals - even if not consciously used - will cause people to become defensive and take them as insults. Nothing new or even specific to Traveller, RPGs, or gaming - just human nature. And I've seen mailing lists and webboards much worse than this one, or the TML in this...

Let's just call it "Traveller", shall we?

"don't like to move beyond the status quo" = negative portrayal "willing to change and adapt" = positive portrayal It could also be: "like to use existing resources to their fullest" - positive "don't like stability and using what's already available" - negative. How about: so-called "Old...

    Fantasy Traveller

I understand. Then I'd second Eisenmann's opinion: Use the basic Traveller tools, like you said, and decide how "magic" affects characters, objects, and events in Fantasy Traveller. I think you might want to allow for High and Low Magic variants also. (I get the idea that the magic type...

    Fantasy Traveller

Reading captainjack23's ideas reminded me of Rick Cook's "Wizardry" series. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Cook) where a Silicon Valley computer hacker is transported to a fantasy type world where magic works by such logic that his programming skills soon make him a powerful wizard. The...

    Transhumanism / Bioengineering and Cybernetics

If it's a book on artificials, cyborgs, androids, bots, etc., and the "love-bot" is just one of many kinds presented and issues explored, and it's not prurient, I think it would be allowed. (As I've been reading the TLL and SRD, I'm beginning to see the possibilities of TLL or OGL books based...

    The Fair Use Policy

I believe Matt hinted last Thursday that an announcement would be coming soon - 'maybe early next week'-ish - after his discussion of the licenses and policy with Marc. He wants to get the wording right. I too sit waiting patiently. :)
