Okay, I haven't played Conan as of yet (I got it just after starting a new D&D campaign) but having DMed D&D ever since 3.0 came out I can't see that removing feinting would "wreck the game" - all it does is remove a potential method of attacking. I do have a number of points however.
1. All...
That's open to debate personally. Remember that to finesse attack you need to beat their DV + the DR of the armour - so effectively they are still keeping the armour part of the DV. Basically DR against a finesse attack works much as the armour bonus to AC does in D&D.
I tend to run character stats with a method one of my friends came up with.
Players can either: Roll 4d6, discard the lowest OR they can choose stats with a net +8 bonuses - ie they can up some of their high stats by taking low stats. Also, half the stats must be odd and half must be even so...
Both of those comments are true however you still need to remember which other skill you need to roll in each situation - so there is just as much to remember.
I am also not suggesting lots of synergy bonuses but applying one WHEN it seems appropriate - ie. the Slaver Appraising slaves but not...
Sounds reasonable, although personally I prefer to keep the number of die rolls to a minimum and this is adding an extra level of complexity. But if it works for you go with it!
Certainly possible. I don't tend to have "standardised" bonuses, more situational ones - for exampled I can see 5 ranks in Profession (Slaver) giving you a synergy bonus to Appraise - when you are appraising slaves etc.
I agree that adventurers rarely use Profession as a skill - but that doesn't mean that no-one else in the world does - ie. the healers, politians, scribes etc - they would all have ranks in this skill.
Having said that, I agree that it seems a tad artifical using a skill role to make money...
It would certainly be nice to see however I think the Conan Classes are more powerful (in general) than the standard D&D classes so you may need to do some tweaking to make them fit better - perhaps the increased HD you suggested and 2 more skill points per level?
Phil.
I just tend to eyeball it (so to speak) - I tend to basically think "that's about right" rather than having set DCs - but then I tend to run a rules light version of d20.
Don't forgot about Conan's multiple adversery rules either - if a target is attacked by multiple attackers they start to get +1 bonuses to hit for every attacker after the first - combine this with flanking and a horde of low-level NPCs grunts can start to be problematic...
I'm running a D&D game at the moment and don't tend to use minatures (or counters). It really depends on your play style and group - my players accept DM fiat where necessary and we all describe actions so even working out AoO isn't a great hassal, we just use a narrative form of combat - having...
Okay, with that reasoning I can see where you are coming from. Unfortunately IMO they don't fit into either category properly. Perhaps we need a new category - perhaps Enhancements?
