The very fact that Conan is so unusual means you CANNOT cite him as an example of success. Not every player will become a king. Aiming to become a king is, however, the very epitome of self-agrandisement.
As for saving women, that's because he's Hyboria's number 1 shagger. It seems he values...
Conan isn't Hyboria. And nobody gets to play him anyway. And as for his saving things, there's plenty of examples of Conan's career as a pirate and buccanneer that certainly don't suggest he's overly moral.
The truest thing is don't reward people being 'good'. And don't punish the 'bad'. Whoever said allow a bad NPC to honour a deal is so right. This alone will make players totally change their approach, because all through they'll be waiting for their 'bad' employer to shaft them. Even after it...
Okay, you are always going to get a few uber-purists, but these guys are the sort that you can't take out socially. All I know is that if Ratner applies the same standards to his Conan film then I'll be a happy bunny. Not holding my breath though. Let's face it, going back to the first two...
I don't see any advancement on my assessment, Strom. The whole point is using a few names doesn't make it Hyboria. Thulsa Doom is a ridiculous character. Where''s he from exactly? As for his two Vanir sidekicks, at what point did those guys get into magic, snake-charming and Set? It's nonsense...
Granted, but the point is nobody is going around dissing the LOTR trilogy as being an embarrassment to the subject. You look at LOTR and can relate to the Middle Earth written about by Tolkien. You look at the Conan films and they have as much to do with Hyboria as Hawk the Slayer, for example...
It's not like the two Conan movies to date have a stack of credibility in any case. Arnie is okay as Conan but the plots are godawful and the 'historical' accuracy simply stinks.
