    System Traffic/Ship Volumes and Numbers

Definitely! That said, I would apply that statement to many things in Traveller :D.

System Red Zones - Local Residents

Useful thoughts, and I suspect the case by case will indeed be the necessary approach. For what it's worth, the question came to mind since of the characters in my upcoming campaign comes from Shionthy. Summary of both cannon and MTU in 1105: interdicted due to anti-matter presence, Imperium...

System Red Zones - Local Residents

Afternoon all, Here's one for your perusal... how would you deal with a situation where there an inhabitant of an interdicted Red Zone has left the system, and the wishes to return? I can see 3 main scenarios here... (1) It is possible to leave a red zone legitimately (or is it?) Here the...

Character Mustering Out Benefits Tech Level

I like the reasoning, in this instance the player is indeed a Marine, but actually mostly a mechanic/engineer so a variant of that reasoning works quite nicely (not that I'll need to justify my call, but I can use that to add some nice colour to the PC's background).

Character Mustering Out Benefits Tech Level

Definitely, there's going to be all kinds of fun with local restrictions before the campaign is done  ... I forsee some fun role-playing as they try and convince the locals of the validity of the Cat 4 Imperial Permit even though the local law frowns upon it 8) ... don't underestimate...

    System Traffic/Ship Volumes and Numbers

Those are some useful responses there. I am fine with figuring out "significant random encounters" using the encounter tables, Starports and creativity to tie in with the pacing of the main story arc (I.e. Breeze through an arrival/departure or make something exciting happen), It's more a...

Character Mustering Out Benefits Tech Level

Some interesting points there, but to bring the thread back to topic here's a concrete example... one of the characters follows the Marine career, and receives the mustering out benefit of armour. In this instance I think the character's home world TL is pretty much irrelevant. It's likely to...

Character Mustering Out Benefits Tech Level

Riddle me this... What approach do you take to picking a Tech Level for items (e.g. Weapons, Armour etc.) that Characters receive as part of their mustering out benefits? With "Imperial" clareers (e.g. Navy, Marines etc.) my instinct is to go with the Imperium average Tech Level (makes a note...

    System Traffic/Ship Volumes and Numbers

Hello all, About to start a campaign (Mongoose rules, circa 1105 and primarily Imperium Fringe based it if matters) and am trying to find out if there is a simple outline anywhere of "average" system traffic and/or number of ships based purely an a world uwp code and bases present. I have...

    Starship Budgets

I think that from a realism perspective military procurement generally results in under-delivering and over-spending when designing and delivering "new" weapon systems. It is exceedingly rare for the first delivery run to be the final version (and often the "good" version doesn't occur until an...

    Psionics in the 3rd Imperium - 1105ish

Thanks for the Wiki reference dragoner, that is helpful. Just spotted the "Starports operate according to Imperial law (equivalent to Law Level 1 for most items, and Law Level 7 for Psionics)" text on page 179 of the core book, which would mean that Imperial High Law says use of Psionics is...

    Psionics in the 3rd Imperium - 1105ish

Hello all, I'm about to start a campaign which includes a Psionics character (Psionics rogue with only basic powers permitted if it matters) and have been trying to pin down what this means in practical terms in the 3rd Imperium (Using Mongoose Traveller 1105). I am fine with the general...

Animal Encounters - Weight/Size and Movement

Thanks Nats, that's very useful indeed. I had spotted your other post, but assumed you meant something else since the ranges seemed very low to me (and I didn't scroll down to see the full explanation). That was exactly what I needed. I guess I might try coming up with an algorithm to propose...

Animal Encounters - Weight/Size and Movement

It's the same for all characters as far as I can tell, as written down on page 60 of the core rule book (in the combat section under minor actions/movement).

Animal Encounters - Weight/Size and Movement

Hello all, I have been perusing the marvel that is animal encounters and picking lots of interesting ideas to spring on my players, great book! That said; there are a couple of things that are somewhat baffling me, and I suspect I am missing something obvious... so, hopefully someone can help...
