    Why Corsairs?

Isn't the Corsair supposed to be able to reconfigure its outward appearance, change transponders etc, so you can make it appear like a subsidised merchant, or a gazelle, or whatever suits a particular encounter? It does have a large cargo bay anyway, for all that loot ...

    Why Corsairs?

Working from MgT1 here... Surely the "Corsair" design started out as an "official" commerce raider, a privateer, cheaper than a real close escort, but with the disguise options, and the usefully large cargo bay. As a warship its rubbish, but quite capable of taking a merchant ship, which is...

    Drop Troops or Jump Troops

Am I right to think that the 3I uses "drop troops", mainly Imperial Marines, and the Solomani use "jump troops", but basically we are talking about heavily armed and armoured soldiers dropped in capsules from orbit regardless of which term is used? I suppose the real answer to drop troops vs...

    Wealth Levels

Of course, in Trav the players could start many points up the wealth and/or experience scale. To be honest, if you want to build a campaign around these rather mechanist ideas, then go ahead, and it will be interesting to hear how you get on. Personally, this, and the experience based gain of...

    The "Red Shirt" Rule

Never keen on attempts to introduce XP into Trav, and this one seems particularly forced device to "power up" the characters. As other posters have pointed out, just hire extra support, or, if possible in the campaign, use combat robots, though the proviso remains that it may become more...

    Perhaps FGMP/PGMP need a nixing/modding...

Coming a bit late to this discussion, though I think its one we have had before. :D Basically, have always felt the stats for battledress work fine, but, in a world where a light space fighter can be bought for just under 10MCr, felt that battle dress (and, for that matter, combat armour) was...

    Consolidating damage mechanics.

On that we definitely agree! :D :D Egil

    Consolidating damage mechanics.

I tend to think that the "critical" hits on people are the reduction in capability as Str and Dex are reduced, unconsciousness (we play the rule where if a single hit which cause more than the original Endurance damage will cause unconsciousness as well), and death. Egil

    Consolidating damage mechanics.

I tend to that the rules mechanics do have a simulation aspect, which is fairly well achieved with the rules as they are, with separate treatment of damage to people compared to vehicles etc. There is always the balance between playability and realism, which I think that MgT, as it stands...

2300AD finding galactic co-ordinates on the Near Star List

The hand typing is very impressive commitment to the game, 20 years ago I might have been tempted to do the same, now I just don't have the time. Yes, some of them do spring out on a quick scan through, but most of the star names are just variations on "DM+39 2376B", which is tedious to scan...

    Consolidating damage mechanics.

No. The, rather gory, reason being that flesh behaves differently to kinetic and explosive impacts compared to the resistant materials that most vehicles are made out of (of course, if there is a vat grown robot, or tank, involved, you might want to stat them as a person). Perhaps what you...

2300AD finding galactic co-ordinates on the Near Star List

I guess that not alphabetizing the NSL in the current 2300AD rules was a mistake. However, many thanks for the link. I can only open it in text, so it looks ghastly, however, it is useable, now have co-ordinates for Broward (confusingly, in the NSL in the book just called "DM -12 4523 A", so I...

2300AD finding galactic co-ordinates on the Near Star List

Unfortunately, I bought a dead tree copy. Egil

2300AD finding galactic co-ordinates on the Near Star List

Not so useful if I want to find the co-ordinates of, e.g Broward and Wolf 629, as either of these could be anywhere in the NSL. Must have been an impressive spreadsheet! Someone must have calculated the routes to construct the star charts, shame they didn't add the light year distances to each...
