From what I understand, the nonpainted stuff is something of a holdover until they can get everything squared away with the mysterious Company X (cue dramatic music).

I've had the exact same thing happen to me. Every time I roll extra speed, the very next one gets me the -1 sp +10% hull! I wanted some faster White Stars! Nope, just some tougher ones.
more expensive. Metals can be poured into molds while with any kind of plastics (as far as I know) need to be injected. Last I remember (its been a while) including equipment and all, plastics cost something like 30x initial start price, but have a significantly longer usability life...
My criticism was more for MP releasing these guys. Although in thinking about it, a clash of civilizations version (probably campaign) could very well use something like these guys.
